This is a poll on the small forwards. Not the medium small marking target forwards like Medhurst, Motlop, Schneider, etc, but the small half-forwards or forward pockets who play small (and occassionally tall) to complement the marking targets.

Who is the best of the lot? I've tried to include the better ones.

Best player on that list is Aaron Davey but he is a midfielder in my mind.

Best actual small forward, call me biased, but Milne. Gets the crumbs and scores the goals to compliment his tall team mates which is what the OP seems to be asking for.

At the moment this is a race between Neon Leon and Junior Boy Rioli. However Rioli will surpass all very very soon.

I do not think anyone could predict how good Rioli can get.

Can you imagine Aaron Davey in a good team? I believe he is such a stand out for Melbourne, Milne is inconsistant, Cyril Rioli is simply amazing as is Leon Davis and Lindsay Thomas.

Only 2 players in the poll worth mentioning. Rioli will be the best but he's behind Davis right now. Although Davis is now really a midfielder who has spells in the forward line. So far ahead of any player in this poll on current (2008 + 2009) form.

Aaron Davey is a soft jerk off who gets cheap stats in the backline. Average player.

Kinda of a joke Rioli is winning this. The main point of these small forwards is to kick goals, and Milne has shown that consisntently for years. Rioli got what 20 goals last year? Milne 60.

Davey and Davis are better players than Milne, but they play mainly midfield and Milne is better at crumbing than them.

If Milne wasn't hated, he'd easily be number 1.

you make a point.

Cyril isn't really playing as a small forward though. More off the wing/hbf.

He's only kicked 2 goals this year, but he is 4th in the AFL for inside 50's.

Alot of the time even if he can have a shot he will pass it off.

It depends what you're looking for, e.g. If it's defensive pressure then Alwyn Davey wins by the length of the internet

If we're purely judging on goals then Milne is the clear standout.

Milne better at crumbing than Leon Davis?

Please. Leon is the best in the business at crumbing. His problem when playing forward is that sometimes he can go missing. Milne seems to stay involved longer when up forward. That's why Davis is playing so well in the midfield, he gets involved more.

Regardless of how many goals he kicks, I can't get enough of watching Rioli play. He's magic.

The thing about him is that even when he is manned up we'll still kick him the ball as we know more often than not he will roll those shoulders and get clear or just plain outmark or run his opponent. He's just a marvel.

What about Paul Chapman?

Exactly. Talk about a flawed poll. Wasn't half obvious what HP's intent was when he started it, but it seems to be backfiring on him. :)

Maybe he'll start a poll "Who's the best small forward wearing number 33 for Hawthorn?" next.

The OP did state 'not medium sized' forwards. If you want to tell me that Chapman is by any means a small forward you would have to be joking. But then again Rioli is winning this poll and he isnt really playing as a traditional small forward so in any case the poll is flawed like you said :)

He's shorter than Lindsay Thomas, Adam Thompson and Jeff Garlett. He's also the same height as Travis Varcoe and no more than an inch taller than 3 or 4 others in that list so I'm not sure how he is not small enough.

If Chapman is excluded for being too much of a midfielder then why do Davey and Cyril make the list
