I know it won't bother many here but I kind of feel sick in the guts thinking about the possibility Malthouse coaching Carlton..... sick of seeing ex-tigers making other teams successful.

First I had to put up with him making West Coast a powerhouse, something that pissed me off throughout my teenage years growing up in Perth, then he went to the team I dispised growing up in Melbourne as a kid in Collingwood and now the possibility he may end up at the ****ing Blues .... surely not, god I hope it turns into a Robert Walls @ Richmond ending, bloody Malthouse.

In all cases they still won a flag .. atm I'd be happy to win 1 final. But I see your point.

I like Malthouse, but he is a tad overrated as coach. Good coach, but not as excellent as most say.

Was handed a team of stars at WCE and then took 11 years, that's right, 11 years for one flag at Collingwood. Plus again given resources that made his job easier. There is a direct correlation between money and success. This will become more obvious as the game progresses. Malthouse was given resources. Interested to see if Carlton can give him what he requires. They are in some serious debt. Sacking Ratten and getting Malthouse would not help their bottom line.

I personally think Ratten was harshly dealt with. He took a side outside the finals and made them a threat. After Round 5 this season, they were Premiership favourites and to be honest playing the best football of any side. Things happen and it didn't work out but Carlton at their best could of won a flag in the coming years with Ratten as coach. I feared them winning a flag, they were well drilled and seemed to play for one another. Great spirit. That comes down to the coach.

Bad Management. Not that I care, cause it's Carlton, but do feel for Ratten. His reputation will take a beating from this. He would definitely be someone I would take as a coach at our club. Have him as Development Director or something along those lines. He seems like a good coach for kids, having him in that role would be ok by me. Stand Alone VFL club, wonder if like Geelong have done with Knights we can do with Ratten? Just a thought.

Exactly a year ago in the final round of the season, Malthouse's Magpies got smashed by the Cats by 96 points. Two weeks later, when the Pies scraped home to beat the Hawks by three points, the Collingwood coach was shot emotionally. Come the grand final, Malthouse didn't have a good day in the box.

Walls has certainly grown on me in the last year or two, and I like McClure also.

As a side note, and I know he's not popular around these parts, but I really enjoy David King. I know he has some floggishness about him (eg. unwillingness to laud Geelong last year), but I find him funny and also informative. I think he has found his niche in the industry.

I don't think he's equipped to handle the tug of war that exists between the true football administrators and the cashed up football administrator wannabe's that run their club.

First, Richmond haven't had anywhere near the number of soft tissue injuries Essendon have had.

Second, Malthouse took so long to turn Collingwood around because they were in a horrible position at the club, they had barely any guns, no depth, they were shit. It took that long to upgrade the club, fill positions, create depth, build their club up from scratch. I would say Richmond was in about as bad a position as they were 3 years ago but we managed to get some pure elite talent and fast tracked our development through some amazing governance and the introduction of Free Agency. Carlton aren't in this position, they already have the talent, they'd probably still be up in the top 8 with Ratten next year, with Malthouse they can throw all their old culture away, start clean, except have the same players without injury and a very talented coach. It doesn't matter who coaches them next year, they'll be a contender.

Credit where it is due, Ratten was classy and dignified right to the end. Put things into perspective beautifully when he said young Rowe was battling cancer and a young woman by the name of 'Sophie' who had died of cancer.

Posting record profits , lurking like vultures at the free agents , lots of room in the salary cap , scouring the globe for the best available people to fill the roles at our club . Basking in the ridiculous stability that our club now resides within .... How pleasant is it to waltz past the fridge .. grab a can . pop on some microwave popcorn .. flop into the couch , sit back and watch as these train wrecks all go at it hammer and tong ....
