What a ****ing strike of the ball!

**** that ball went high :rocket::rocket::rocket:

Brag time (and it's all i got), back in the day i used to be a fairly long kick, end to end drop punt around 60 on a good day, anyway i brought a new pair of boots on the way to my z division game one Saturday only to find i couldn't Kick more than 30 metres in them (they fit me, ****s me what was wrong with them), anyway my own team mates were abusing me about it, "kick it long etc etc", anyway i was on tbe defensive side of the wing this one time with a hurricane wind at my back and thought **** it, i'll try a torp, it slapped off the boot, didn't feel good at all but it got altitude, anyway if it had of cleared the pack in the goal square it would've been a goal.

****ing thing went 90 metres.

Correct me if im wrong but is that not the first torp of the year, what a sad state of affairs, how long until dustins son is being drafted. He may be our last great hope to bring it back.

You mean aside from the fact that Hunt is only 22 and did one tonight? Plenty of time to inspire the next generation.

Hunt did it tonight because he had to as the siren had sounded and a drop punt wouldnt have got the distance, id like to see players do it more not just out of necessity.

Fair enough, but that has been the case for a very long time. Even in the 80s and 90s I don't recall seeing many torpedo field kicks. They were always best for long bombs for goal when you couldn't make the distance, or when kicking in from defence and you had no short options. I like them too, but they aren't coming back in an in-play sense.

Yeah true mate i just miss dustin banging out 80 metre torps from full back, and i was half joking about his son briniging it back because he is draft age this year i beleive and the same player as his dad.

Yeah they aren't coming back, we'll always get the odd one from FB but no one has the balls to launch one at goal.

Daicos was the last player i can think of who had a licence to unleash the beast when going for goal, and there was a reason for that.

Under utilized skill in footy. Quite often guys get it 55 out and drop it to the top of the square and get repeat stoppages and can get rebounded against doing the 'team' thing.

It's often quite easy to find the footy around 60 out imagine of each side had 3 or 4 blokes who could launch torps effectively you would force teams to pull apart their zone.

Jesse Hogan can barely kick it 40m, what happened to the full forwards launching it 55 on the drop punt easily.

The next advancement in footy will be finding forwards who can kick the distance again rather than be athletic and tackle.

To get it back maybe we need an incentive...like if a Torp outside 50m arc and a goal, add another 2 points to the score....would also bring the crowd into it too:drunk:

On an otherwise very dull night, that got me out of my chair. I love it how it is completely hit and miss. You either hit it like shit and it goes about 30/40m, or you flush it like that and the thing just goes and goes and goes.

Kicked from 65 but travelled about 70.

I think from the eagles we've had two opportunities in recent times after the siren.

Sam Butler - Did not attempt the barrel, just handed the ball to the umpire = Fail, delist, 0/10

Tom Barrass - Has a crack but comes off the side of the boot and travels 35m = Sign him up again, make him practice = 3/10

Should be a criminal offence. Anywhere in the attacking half, if the siren goes, you owe it to the fans to try and load her up. Even if it is just to pad your stats with another kick.

The term "have a go ya mug" comes to mind.
