Can't believe people aren't talking a bit more about roughead being out, yer, he maybe the only one not in their full strength team but he's always such a pain in the a for us. Doesn't matter even when he has a down game and gets only a dozen possessions you can bet 3 of those possessions result in goals for them.

I love that he's not in.

Hawk's first and last games were pretty poor, the other two were ok.

Hawks love playing at G and we have some mental demons from last year to overcome.

Hank and Drugs summed up some of the key issues, blasting ball in, balance of numbers and allowing them uncontested play just killed us last year. We also took several suicidal kicks in the first quarter, none of which worked I reckon, 3 or 4 turned into goals. I think a couple might have been smith. The other was dougie - who hasn't fixed this i have noted, already has done some absolute massive clanger kicks under no pressure in the back 50. We don't want to get off to that sort of start again. Though I do expect us to still attempt 2-4 of those kicks and possibly 1 maybe 2 wont come off, we have been going for them and Pyke seems to want us to keep doing it. Hopefully we still get off to a good start.

The good thing for us is our recent confidence from our form this year and last weeks game.
Our forward line will be in the mind of every team in the comp.
Our sharing of the load is very important, need to keep doing that.
Jacobs should win the ruck, or at least have a good contest. They play 2 ruckman, Ceglar and Hickey, then gunston, obrien and sicily. Could we go Jacobs, ROB, Tex, Jenkins and McGov? (Lynch has a large tank and so from the perspective of big men who limit the sides running capacity he's a non factor).
Speaking of Jacobs, I reckon everyone has had a 100% game so far except Jacobs and Tex, who have both had up to 90%. Still, that's pretty good, a team that should be pretty confident now.
Thommo will play on Mitchell, he loves playing on him, he can actually keep up and catch him
Be interested to see who runs the game out better, I'm interested in this every week, just to try and pick who's more and who's less affected by the rotations.
I will also be interested to see how our zone can get at them and manage to pressure them, its worked pretty well against most teams so far.
I am keen to know how their offence will be set up as well, will we see another sydney type thing with them getting lose at the back of contests and then getting over the back goals.

Should be a good game, if we get off to a decent start and injuries play no part in influencing the outcome, then I believe our form is very good (for us) and theirs is sketchy (for them) so I will say us by about 12 points.

Our gameplan against Sydney wasn't the same as it has been this year though. If we can match Hawthorn strength for strength instead of insisting on playing our game (which hawthorn know how to shutdown) like we did against Sydney we won't be blown off the park. In saying that, i'm of course not 100% confident of a win but there's no reason we can't. I'm predicting a very close game but can't quite call a winner until I see selection.
Your password is seriously making me hungry

Campo also shat himself. Played an extra defender in Q1. We got quite a few (hurried) centre clearances in the first quarter. They all ended up with Grant Birchall who had 14 possessions by quarter time. Game over after 30 minutes. Hope Pyke shows more courage.

Classic case of if it ain't broke don't fix it. We seemed to come into that game playing a completely different style than the previous game's. It was really disappointing.

Who stops Mitchell ?? He has been racking them up. Surely we don't let him just do his own thing ??
McGovern and Douglas ( when in midfield )

Would love to see McGovern shake him up early if he thinks he has time and space then BOOM as Rowie would say

Got to make him work the other way when in midfield , caleb Daniel did it , why can't dougy

Would love McGovern Cameron and betts applying season high pressure in our forward half to disrupt their pin point ball movement

Seedsman Rat and even Mackay can apply more pressure on the deep wings than what we were able to provide last year

Then it comes down to our offence - let's get them every which way - out the back , on the lead up and in the air one on one

Please sauce - can you rediscover your best form and give us first look at it in the clearances

And Smithers / laird provide that drive from defence while Talia and Brown lock down on the dangerous forwards

Not sure why Hawthorn are short-priced favorites to win. I think this game will be a lot closer and Adelaide's form has been superior to Hawthorn's at this stage.
Because of their year to year record but also as noted the ability to switch gears and make that effort to win. That says they are still switched on.

I like what Adelaide have delivered so far this year. I think we are better and have a real good feeling about this week. But I don't run the books

Hawthorn and unsociable football. I don't care if Hawks supporters don't like the term. Its true. Its also true its helped them win. I hope we have a few players prepared to do something. Not just jumper wrestle and say naughty things. have a crack and hurt them if they want to play that way. make a stand and say we wont accept that.

grr

Does anyone find the thread title a bit patronising?

I mean it's a test, but hardly the ultimate one.

May be a tad OTT, but I challenge anyone to name a bigger challenge than attempting to beat the triple reigning premiers on their home deck, especially coming off 6 straight losses against them.

Playing the reigning premier who we haven't beaten since 2011 at there home ground on a Friday night is the ultimate test for us at this stage if you ask me.

Heading over to Melbourne tomorrow from little ol' Hobart with 2/3 of my kids - been 3 years since we lived in Melbourne and we are all jumpin' to get back to the G.

When does the team fly over? Do they have any mini-training sessions or anything that would be a chance for the kids to get a signature on the jumper / cap? Even the day after? Anyone point me to where I would find this info?

Really looking forward to the game ... We'll be screamin' our guts out for the boys

PS - Last week I realised that a bloke I do a lot of work with is Andrew Fagan's brother :) When we put 2-and-2 together, he told Andrew who promptly sent a great email to my two kids which of course blew their minds ! Classy fella.
That's really great :)

Maybe, but prefer to play the Hawks early in the season. They are slow starters (of course due to September commitments,
what a lovely problem to have!)
