I understand your sentiment, but I think you guys still don't get the Ebert significance to PAFC dating back nearly 100 years including father, grandfathers, great grandfathers, uncles and cousin on both paternal and maternal sides of his family.

SPP to WCE aint in the same universe.

Anyway, back on topic..... might Venables get up this week so we can do an apples v apples comparison finally?

Ah, so that's why he was only worth a late second round pick... :p

Venebles unlikely on WAFL form at this stage, still working on fitness etc after a very limited preseason.

No I get that but I don't really care, nor does it really matter. Oh because he is an Ebert we should bend over.

We did bend over, so now it's Port turn to return the favour.

That wont be possible for a couple of years and really only fully at the end of their careers.

Cheers to all the above. I am sure PAFC will return the bending over favour at some point in the future, just hopefully not with SPP [emoji6]

Venables looks a very likely sort. True, him and SPP will be compared for years just like Ebert and Danger are. Adelaide was way in front of that draft selection quandary. ... at least until they lost him [emoji28]. I guess you guys are hoping to be the Geelong in the SPP scenario. We'll see!

I think some of you may be setting yourselves up for a disappointment unfortunately. SPP hasnt just moved to our club, he's been brought into the family so to speak.

From the moment he arrived at Alberton we backed him in and gave him opportunity and to his credit hes taken that opportunity and completely owned it. Its allowed him to form really strong bonds with Wines, Gray, Boak, Ryder and Ebert, both on the field and off.

He's enjoying the club, enjoying his footy, Port are playing well... Id be really, really surprised if he doesnt sign on with us long term.

I agree with this as he looks to have settled in very well and is being looked after

That said so did Ebert so we can but hope even if it's unlikely

Also, with Ebert I don't think too many were surprised that Ebert asked for a trade or misunderstood the significance his ties to Port due to the family connections. What pissed us off is the attitude of port to the trade and that we got completely bent over as a result

Pick 28 was rude enough but trading down from 45 to 49, although insignificant, was just a slap in the face.

It wasn't received well by Eagles supporters so get used to some of us pushing to get SPP back for a packet of Twisties no matter how long it takes or how unlikey it appears to actually happen

To be fair to us we were coming off a season where we had won 3 games and were on the bottom of the ladder (below even the first year Gold Coast Suns) until the last day of the season. Our compensation for that of course was pick 6 at the draft with GWS having the first 5 picks. We were hardly in a position to be charitable or fair in any trade deal. We made the most of the bargaining chips we had and screwed you guys over. Unlucky but any club would have done the same thing.

The fact he was being kept out of the side is what I think tipped him over the edge. He could always take a great grab but his disposal was deplorable.

I know I've lost my royal blue and yellow tinted glassed around the house somewhere, but how much more than pick 28 was Ebert worth?

No one here rated him very highly up until the point where he asked for a trade.

And also like the Port fan said, we would have considered when we drafted him that he was never a lock to stay.

Add to that he probably did us a favour as if he didn't leave we never would have got rid of him.

At any rate he looks to have improved at Port in a friendlier environment for him personally so good on him. I think it worked out alright for everyone.

No salary cap issues. Dixon Ryder love Ken and Port and won't be going anywhere. Wingard actually not on massive coin. Ebert Pittard and Trengove want to stay at Port. SPP fitting in really well with Paul V, our Indigenous program and his 'brothers' at Port. I reckon he'll want to stay and I can't see us letting him go anyway. I'm still surprised WC didn't draft him though.
From what I heard the recruiters in WA wanted him, but our recruiters based in Victoria wanted Venables and they won the day! As SPP was AFL ready and Venables is coming back from injury so is still building his tank, only time will tell if we made the right decision or not?

This is true. I reckon most clubs will have done well in the end. It was needs based for us.

Yes, as we can already see this year, I think Ebert will come into his own as a tough inside mid. It took a while though. His lineage is Port through and through so he would always want to come home eventually. Anyway you have Pearce, I really liked the kid.

Who's Pearce?

He's not on our list

IMO probably about the pick he was taken with (pick 13?) being a mid-late first rounder... He had played the majority of games after being drafted and whilst he still had inconsistencies was always going to be a walk up start to Port's best 22.

Not sure how it worked out alright for us... Fraser McInnes hasn't exactly set the world on fire and we could use a contested mid.

*takes blue and yellow glasses off*

But, it's footy. Win some and lose some. Still have hope Venables was the right choice.

I'll be dirty forever on the Ebert trade. That will only change if we trade in SPP for a second rounder. LET JUSTICE PREVAIL
That trade doesn't look too bad. We got hill , who has has been ok and Ebert has been a tad better.
