I think this weekend will show us where G.Ablett is at. He should get Steven Baker like he has for the last few years. He had been beaten by him on most occasions. This year Ablett has really lifted his game but will he be able to shake the Baker tag? I hope he can and prove to everyone he is a true star.

Thoughts?

It certainly will be, baker does anything it takes to shut his man down. I think you will find all our players will be aware of the tag and will try and help JNR TO BREAK IT. He is so important to us i hope he plays well.

Rookey should be told to bash Baker whenever the opportunity arises. Drive him into the ground, block him at contests and shepherd him hevily at every opportunity. By doing this you will take Baker's focus away from Gaz and free him up to carve up the Sainters.

Yep. The minute he is near the ball give him some of his own medicine. Bet the little prick wont hack it for long.

could be a dangerous game for moon dog easily could see him throwing a haymaker with good intentions but uncalled for.

Yeah he usually goes to Jnr and is one of the best taggers going around but with Jimmy in the form he is this year it may be that he is considered more dangerous and he could also end up with baker. Either way same scenario in that they will need help to get a little space between themselves and baker.

Worth the weeks if he nails baker on the chops :p :p

Gazza has previously nominated Baker as his hardest opponent, and I quite admire the little prick, his tough gives everything and never gives up.
This year Gazza has moved up to another level and this is yet another opportunity to prove it. The fact that Rooke is in the side will mean that he will get plenty of help. Also Gazza is a lot fitter than in previous years and will run him around which will make it easier for him rather than just be sitting in a pocket as in past years.
Chalk up another win for Gazza.

Umpires were quick to ping taggers scragging last week, so lets hope they keep up with it this week to free up Ablett and Bartel.

Could be interesting this week. IIRC, wasn't Gaz on Giesch's supposed "protected species" list? If that is true, and Baker scraggs Gaz like only Baker can, surely that would mean Gaz would get a ton of free kicks.

IMO Gaz has stepped up enough to not require free kicks to make his mark. Last year Gaz would have had a sook if he was being tagged. Now he's pushing harder to shake them. Up against one of the best in the business, should be a good measure.

Wow, you lot are out for blood, aren't ya?

"own medicine"?, "little prick"?, "nail baker on the chops"?, "Drive him into the ground"?
 ??!!?

Surely you're not suggesting our humble, dear little battler be given any untoward attention?

Isn't that what you're outraged about in the first place?

Lingy will do a simular job on Hays or Dal so it's not a case of hating Baker at all.

It's more to the point that in recent years whenBaker has put a heavy tag on Gaz, he's battled to break even. I just wan't to see Gaz given a bit of a helping hand from a few of his bigger bodies teammantes if Bakes starts to get on top of him.

I'm sure you guys feel the same when your mids are heavily tagged.

Ih he gets tagged, they should play him one out in the goal square and give him space to lead into. Baker will be no match then.

If he does have a quiet one, hopefully Chapman, Varcoe Stokes and co. will lift.

I am with sarah, gazza has been tagged the last 3 weeks and he has performed well. That is the new aspect to his game ie he has learn't how to cope with being tagged. A Champion does that. But baker will be a test that's for sure.

Gablett has stepped up to superstar status this year and against Baker, it is a good chance to test it.

On the other hand, I think Geelong has the 2 best combined taggers in the AFL. Many teams just have 1 genuine good tagger but Geelongs has 2 top notch taggers in Ling and Rooke.

Yep, it's definitely an option that should be explored if he can't shake the tag. He's shown he can play the Nathan Brown role one out of the goalsquare in the past, to great effect.

But that said, he still needs to start within the midfield mix, as per recent weeks. It may or may not count for much, but Gaz is working harder than ever before around the ground. I'm confident he'll have an input on the game.
