What the duck is going on with my dogs lately.

After ten years and five years, they've both all of a sudden decided to increase their appetite at least threefold. Just non stop hungry eating bigger portions of food and snacks than ever. Not apparent weight gain. Beautifully timed with inflation and pet food prices going up.

Just whatever has happened to them the last six months, it's ridiculous. Stop eating so much. Stop always wanting more food. Some nights they have 6x more servings than the have averaged over the years.

Have they started smoking weed?

How people think their political team (whoever that is) is going to make any discernible difference on their life.
Been through enough elections to ultimately realise both parties are pretty much the same. A few minor changes, but fundamentally, pretty much the same now.

I'm old enough to have grown up when the wastefulness and fiscal irresponsibility of young people was defined by their new Commodores and Falcons and utes.

But shit.

The new generation, surely the average young person has never been driving more expensive vehicles? Even accounting for inflation, those cars were surely not as much as the current fascination for kitted out urban cowboy twin cabs and 4x4s? Both new and used?

This makes me laugh but also makes me question why some people hitch their wagons to certain causes.

'i cant afford a new house' - after, as you say, driving around in a pretty expensive car, going on multiple overseas trips, buying coffee 3 times a day every day etc......🤣

What’s this boomer talk

The idea that young people have to make a choice between enjoying their youth and future property ownership seems to be a fairly contemporary one and one that does seem a bit unfair in comparison to previous generations.
which is kind of the point
its much easier to blame the kids for their own situation than to take any responsibility yourself and push for something to be done about it

Mate, these cars are like 50k at the bottom, most would be in the 60k range and up. At some point... it's not responsible? It shouldn't always boil down to a 'lol ok boomer'.

The change in car culture has been one that the companies are loving because consumers are spending more than ever.

My folks couldn't afford where they grew up, moved out 15mins, we couldnt afford where i grew up, moved out 10mins.......it hasnt changed.
The data on average salary vs average house price suggests it really has. Even using real outer suburbs as an entry point, housing is about six times the starter salary. It was not that in the '80s and '90s.

so what did i say that is incorrect in my statement? they shouldnt expect to be able to afford to buy in the city or where they grew up, same as the last few generations.....

The financials have changed; your parents could move 15 mins out and get a mortgage equal to three times their salary. Today, kids can move 30-45 mins out and be paying six times their salary. Naturally, the second is much harder to achieve, the deposit alone becomes a drag. The circumstances are very different.

so what i said was accurate - thanks for agreeing with me

The bolded have changed, so I'm not agreeing with you. Seems obvious.

Now it is, couldn't afford where they grew up, moved 30-45 mins out, had to save for twice as long for the deposit and are under more financial stress than their parents because their mortgage is six times their salary, not three.
