So? I love how the term "athiest" is thrown around like an insult in political circles. I'd much rather have people who don't blindly believe fairly tales thousands of years old in positions of power.

I guess you could say politicians who think they have the right to make decisions based religion shit me. This is the 21st century ffs.

She opposes gay marriage because it's politically convenient for her. Abbott opposes it because of his Christian background. I respect Abbott's stance on gay marriage much more than I respect Gillard's stance simply because it doesn't appear that she has an ideological framework that underpins her decisions and values.

Why would an atheist, who doesn't even wish to get married, believe in the sanctity of marriage to a point where she denies it to an entire group of people? It makes no sense and it's therefore reasonable to assume she holds this position because it's politically expedient for her to oppose gay marriage.

Anyway, wrong place, stupid discussion. Pretty easy answer to all this I would've though. Civil unions for all, marriage reserved for Christians. Simple.

This and this. Sums up the whole debate for me. I couldn't care less, would be happy to see marriage abolished altogether and replaced with simple legal contracts like civil unions like you mention that are open to everyone.

The thing that is pissing me of atm is how much everything is geared toward "youth" and young people. Yeah i am being cynical here but it seems that marketing people just aggressively target the youth and keep them holding on to their "youth" up until a point where they finally cross over and are not gullible to the demands of aggressive mass marketing. It seems to be the early 30s these days.

But nearing my 40s it's just pathetic how multinational corporations now make me feel useless and old and not worthy of much unless i subscribe to their anti aging bullshit. The sad bit is there are a lot of people my age who have fallen for this bullshit and insist that they need to act and look 23.

Young people have never had so well and it's no wonder most of them think they are essentially the most important snow flake in the world. marketing towards them is so hyper aggressive and unbearable.

hahah do what i used to do..just stand there behind them make sure they are looking and start to count the items really loudly..and then say "oh i thought this was a 12 items or less" sure it wont do much in terms but it will embarrass them.

But these days people don't care about being embarrassed over stuff like that..in fact they consider it a win such is the arrogance.

Anyway express lanes are starting to be a thing of the past with a lot of self serving checkouts being introduced.

The amount of websites that require you to create an account and, on top of that, impose ridiculous requirements for passwords to ensure it's a STRONG password and has to have special characters, capital letters, 4000 letters, and a number. The only website where I need a strong password is my mobile banking. Anywhere else, I don't care. Let me make my password dog if I want.

Only way I can stay on top of it is to have a word doc with all my passwords stored in it.

I snapped this woman a while back:

Instead of going through an open checkout (there were many) and having someone scan and bag your items, she goes through the self serve with a full trolley...and gets the attendant to scan and bag her items! Would have taken about 5 times as long

I also notice a big buy up of shit paper there too.. And what about this scenario the customer in front of you that has the say 24 items gets up to item 23 then grumbles about the price and it should be on special..So then the checkout attendant calls for a price check and says its in isle 12..You remember that there is only 12 isles and the poor guy/girl has to go all the way up the end....wait about 5 more minutes and finally they come back and say no this is the 350 ml item. The sale is on 200 ml do you still want it? No....May have to do a void or refund on that.

Just because a society is more advanced, doesn't necessarily mean that they have made all the same discoveries or inventions (in this case music). The possibility of music might never have occurred to them.

Also, our society is much more advanced than when Bach was alive, but it's fair to say musical standards have taken a gigantic step backwards when (by your argument), modern music should be leaving Bach for dead.

Yeah i know it's possible, yet for me it's unrealistic (i.e. highly unlikely). In the movie he represents a group of alien civilisations; as if one of them hadnt invented awesome music yet. And I know how damn good Bach is. It just shits me when movies will have an overarching theme about the destructive or shocking nature of mankind, and then to appease the audience they'll bang on about redeeming features; in the film they also had an alien in a chinaman's body talking to alien keanu about how much he grew to love earth and the people despite our impending destruction of our own planet .
