Was gonna post in 'underrated inventions' thread but couldn't find it on first page.
POWER STEERING, cot dam it's something we take for granted, I think a lot less people would be frequent drivers if they were always wrestling with a non power steering wheel.
One of my friends passed his driving test in a Tarago without power steering.

He was a god amongst men.

We lived in an electric world. We relied on it for everything. And then the power went out. Everything stopped working. We weren't prepared. Fear and confusion lead to panic. The lucky ones made it out of the cities. The government collapsed. Militias took over, controlling the food supply and stockpiling weapons. We still don't know why the power went out, but we're hopeful that someone will come and light the way.

You should pitch that to Hollywood.

The fact that we've never had a civil war, or any type of war among our own people, in our country.

People of all different cultures, races, ancestries, religions, etc; living as one peaceful, highly developed nation for generations upon generations.

Look at other areas of the world with homogeneous populations and you will essentially find brothers killing brothers throughout history and to this day. The wars in Yugoslavia is one example, and is the reason my parents came to Australia in the early 90's.

Such a unity is a marvel in itself that Australians take for granted.

I'll see your Tarago and raise you a mate that passed his driving a Leyland P76.

I agree that this makes Australia very fortunate, but for mine, it also has helped develop a somewhat apathetic political (for want of a better word) culture in Australia. Every freedom that we enjoy in this country has been handed to us on a plate, and has led, IMO, to a culture where the freedoms and opportunities afforded us living here, are taken for granted far more than they should be.

Yeah, the death and persecution of many hundreds of thousands of Aboriginals was a big coincidence
A civil war implies at least some semblance of a fair fight, I've always put what happened to the First Australians in the category of genocide.
