This week's game

posted this earlier in the week on another thread but I still feel same way although Buckley not being out there is of comfort:

I know this sounds really stupid but whilst not confident of beating Collingwood (how can even the most one eyed Richmond supporter be confident about beating anyone at the moment) I am quietly optimistic that we may get closer than most people think. Our recent record against Collingwood is pretty good. All year we have been getting smashed in the midfield and lately our talls (normally our strength) have also gone missing. Our midfield has improved recently because they are finally giving some of the young blokes a go. Unfortunately due to suspensions, injuries, and dummy spits we have been found wanting in the big man department. Next week will be only the third game this year in which Ottens, Richo and Stafford will take the park at the same time. We still miss Ben Holland desperately and would be stuffed completely if Rocca, Malloy, Tarrant and Cummings were to play. However this won't be the case. Gasper gets the key forward and Andy Kellaway gets the next best. Unfortunately we look better when Kellaway gets a smaller forward who he can run off. It's a big if but this is the midfield (ie Coughlan, Roden, Fiora, Newman) that Richmond supporters have been screaming out to be given a go since the start of the year. Every flogging we cop brings us one game closer to an upset. As the season comes closer to end (thank God) the Pies will be motivated for the finals. In contrast Richmond have no such motivation. However for the first time in a while the coach isn't being made to bear the brunt. Finally the players will be held accountable. At season's end Punt Road will be having one huge player cleanout. Every time Richmond takes the field till the end of the season each and every player is playing for their future. Most have no chance of finding homes at other AFL clubs so if Pies fans think Richmond won't be trying, think again.....If Collingwood get complacent then they may get a suprise. If the Pies come out "Switched On" then the Tiges are stuffed. I would have been more hopeful if Geelong hadn't beaten them on Saturday. There's no way Mick will allow them to be complacent now. Good sides don't drop two in a row and as much as it pains me to say it, this year Collingwood are a good side................

Richmond to stay with Collingwood till halfway thru second quarter. Mick to read riot act to Collingwood at half-time. Collingwood come out and dominate second half to win by a modest 5 goals.

Cheers!

The side that will take to the field tomorrow night will be the strongest we have been able to put together since Round 2! Since then, it has been a constant stream of niggling injuries (Holland and Hilton aside) that has meant we have never been able to have a settled side.

The Buckley ommission will hurt Collingwood on two fronts; firstly because whoever comes in to cover him will not be anywhere near as good and secondly The Glove will just move onto the next best midfielder and will take him out of the game.

The unlikely appearance of Tarrant will also be to our advantage, somewhat negating the absence of Ben Holland. It means that our defence will be able to match up on your forwards

This is the first time since round 2 that Richo, Otto and Stafford will be all on the park together. This is vitally important to the Richmond game plan (and is one of the main reasons why we have struggled this year). What we will see is Richo and Otto lining up forward while Stafford will take the majority of the ruck work.

You don't have to be Einstein to work out that this presents a huge headache for Collingwood and is the reason why we smashed you in Round 1.

Now that our defence and forward lines are set, we can apply the patented CJH equation of football:

Given equal distribution of the ball through the midfield, and therefore equal entries into the forward 50, we will win.

This is because our backline is the equal of your forward line - they match up well - but we have too many quality options up forward, therefore creating an imbalance.

Clearly, the main variable in this is the performance of our midfield. They have been oscillating between woeful and barely adequate all year and haven't really clicked as a unit once. Nonetheless, this has shown signs of improvements over the past few weeks - we should have won the Carlton and Kangaroos games, while would have gone close against the Bulldogs - as the kids have been getting a better run.

It is exciting seeing the likes of Rodan, Coughlan, Fiora and Pettifer coming through - they will be the next generation midfield, just like Adelaide's and Brisbanes are now.

So there it is. Break even in the midfield and we will win. Get beaten there and we will lose.

No way in hell!!!! I've way too much pride to ever condone defeat!!!

I think you underestimate the strength of Collingwood's backline. While you had a great first round a kicked alot of goals, that will not happen again and has rarely happened to Collingwood this year.

I also think you overestimate Buckley's omission, Buckley has struggled as of late (with the exception of the Crows game) and although he is a pivotal part of the team....we are not a one man team. We are more balanced side than we have been for years and Buckley's omission can be covered.

I will post more tomorrow after the teams have been posted tonight.

Buckley may not have been in the best of form in the recent weeks but he still gets his 20+ possessions each week, which someone else will have to get tommorrow night without him there.

And we don't have to waste Duncan on him ...

While we've got your ear there Maggie Joel, do us a favour will you. Drop into "FromTheOuter" - the Unofficial Collingwood site that black-banned every Tiger supporter from posting about 10 minutes after the Round 1 game, and tell them, from all of us who were not even trolling but just inviting analytical and objective discussion, that they can all go and get stuffed !!

Can you do that for us ?

Another weekend, another capitulation. Looked good in the first quarter too. Must of been dannys inspirational talk at 1/4 time that fired em up to greater heights. More like he bored them to tears. Who is he going to bring back next week, hudson and sziller at the expense of youngsters. Maybe clinton king will win a repreave. When is he going to learn, there is no future playing these experienced senior hacks. He might realize in round 22, after 14 consecutive losses, when the feral flock turns on him and knives him in the back. He says he is going to make hard descisions and play youngsters. Well I'm still waiting.

hmmmmmmmmmm you support playing the youngsters before they are ready? yeah why not run them into the ground early in their careers afterall they have all to play for this year.

well its working friggin bloody well at Geelong!!!!!!
You live in the past TOO, like our hillbilly coach, who believes modern youngsters need nurturing. Bring back Rodgers, King, Sziller etc etc etc at the expense of Hyde, Kracker etc etc:- thats really going to give us a bright future. If you were in charge, you would drop Coughlan & Rodan, because they are too young. Havent you noticed we are getting flogged anyway with your senior dud heroes.

was hoping you would bring up geelong it shows how little you know about football.
geelong,s policy has been to rotate their young kids between the seniors and reserves to ensure their isnt a heavy burden on the kids too early in their careers.
christ imagine if you were in charge they will end up burnt out footballers within 3 yrs.
who,s living in the past here?
you theory is simply sack the coach the very coach you were praising this time last year.

turncoat!!
