Sounds like it's a dead certainty, or at least the players are pushing the coaches to make it so.

We'll see it during the NAB and it should work well. I also think given how fit Pods is, it won't see us get 'run off' by defenders as much as some think. However my query is with only 4 on the bench (and one of those to be Blake or Ottens frequently) whether we can carry 3 talls forward as it will mean one will be on the bench more often, which will lessen the rotations we can throw through the midfield.

At the end of the day though, if Pods is playing well enough to deserve selection in the 22, then we should give it a go and see how it goes.

Theoretical only, but what we have done past 2 years IF NABLETT had stayed? All 3 of Mooney NAB and Tomahawk? Have often wondered. The few times all 3 played we blitzed. Carlton 07 specially. How would Hawkins have developed? I'm sure we can work all 3.Have heard Pods will be a revelation.(from rehab staff)

I don't know why, I just get the feeling Pods will kick more this year than either of Hawkins or Mooney.

Then again, I said Djerrkura was going to blow Selwood away when we drafted them :o

F*** it. I'm calling it. Pods to kick 60.

I'd take little notice of the tactics used in an intra club match in regards as to how the season pans out. But I will tip Pods to get a gig during the NAB cup

Controversial! :p

Geelong mature age rookie James Podsiadly has one admirer with a brave punter backing him to win the Coleman medal to win half a million dollars with sportsbet.com.au. The punter plonked $1000 at 501 for a potential collect of $501,000 seeing his price crunch into $81.

Mind you 500 to 1 is fantastic odds for Pods. He is the player at Geelong most likely to win the coleman. Mainly becuase we all know that no-one in the team from last year can possibly win it, but we don't know that Pods can't win it (although he probably wont).

The bookies don't seem to have any idea - Stokes is being offered at 100-1.

I agree...although rather than the tactics I will take notice of the players comments, as well as coaches (i.e. Amos today) which seem to indicate a likelihood of him playing round 1.

As for the NAB, I think just about everybody will get a gig so that's no surprise.

Amazing to think Kinglsey was leading the Coleman once in a bottom-eight side, in the second half of the season.

oh great! now we have to sacrifice a live chicken to ward of the Kent Kingsley Curse falling on pods....a moderators work is never done....off to KFC:D

I don't know about having a grand on it but it's not a completely terrible bet at 500s.

If promoted and plays you wouldn't definitively say that he couldn't match Mooney's efforts, and if he converts better, he'd be in coleman territory in an even year.

Fev/Brown could cannabalise each other, then you're a buddy injury away from winning the coleman with 70 odd goals.

LOL it's fantasy but I've seen plenty of worse bets.

I think 3 tall forwards is fine, as long as they're all fairly mobile. It wouldn't work with Ottens down there for instance. I never had a problem of them trying it when Nathan Ablett was playing as he was amazingly quick with his reflexes for his size. Likewise Mooney moves very well for a big guy. So we'll see.

Might as well try it out in the NAB Cup, that's what it's there for.

Agreed....Pods is very agile for his size so I can't see why it can't work so long as travis and shannon do their jobs as well.

Will definitely be trialled in the NAB with the flexibility of 6 on the bench.

Manimal and SJ do alright getting the ball off the deck:thumbsu:

Agreed...and both can play further up the ground at times, as can Mooney. Both Hawk and Pods with space, given both their speed and strength, will be a handful for defenders. It's just going to need a lot of work for the chemistry to get right since it would be a change from what we've had as a forward structure the last couple of years.

I think it could work quite well with Mooney leading up the ground. Leaving Pods and Hawkins roaming the forward 50 and hitting Mooney up between 50 and the center circle. It means playing 5 forwards though which leaves it a bit crowded as we need crumbers at the feet Hawkins and Pods.

The Tomahawk actually ranked 3rd at the club for ground ball gets inside forward 50 according to the AFL Prospectus, so he's pretty handy too. :thumbsu:

Good point! Keeping in mind that when we smashed Carlton and Melbourne in early 2007, that was before we'd had our catalyst. That was just the strength of our three tall forwards (two of whom were underdeveloped).

Imagine what it will be this year with a confident Mooney, a "delicious" Hawkins - I'm sorry, but I don't think any other word does his magic of the finals series justice - and Pods, who I can't help but feel still has a chance to become the second greatest forward of all time. Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but I was praying for Geelonng to pick him up in the draft after just a handful of games in the VFL.

I don't know what Collingwood and Essendon were thinking, letting him go.

To people who haven't seen Pods play yet: be excited. Be very, VERY excited.

He's fit, he's fast, he's STRONG, he commands a forward line, one of the strongest marks I've ever seen, accurate, and more than capable of kicking 5+ goals a game. And yes - I mean at AFL level.

GAAAAHHHHH!!!!! I want to scream I'm so excited to see our forwards today! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

We have such good supply from the midfield, with the level Tomahawk, Pods, Chappy and Stevie J will be at this year, I don't see why all four of them can't be in the top 15 goal scorers in the AFL.

My bet is Pods will get the most for Geelong, closely followed by Stevie J, with a team-oriented Hawkins coming third, and Chappy coming in fourth (though he may be bumped up if he can avoid injury and fatigue).
