Also, if they're gonna have it, mix up the teams a bit. There are three Thurs night matches this year, and Carlton are in all three.

THURSDAYS - INTERSTATE GAME

FRIDAYS - MCG

SATURDAYS - TD (DURING DAY
SATURDAYS - INTERSTATE

SAT NIGHT - MCG

SUNDAY - TD

SUNDAY TWI - INTERSTATE

MONDAY - MCG

would that work???

Friday Night - 1
Saturday Afternoon - 2
Saturday Night - 2
Sunday Afternoon - 2
Sunday Twilight - 1
Sunday Night - 1

I like that sort of fixturing, except I would probably move either one of the Sunday twighlight/night matches to a Thursday.

Have to disagree here. The crowds have indicated huge support for this movement.
And you don't think the fact that the two games have been A) The season opener and B) Fevs first game against Carlton, have anything to do with this?

I like Thursday night footy. I haven't had to go to a game yet though and work the next day, but its good to watch on the box.

Crazy system. So the non-Victorian clubs would have to play the 5 day break more often than Victorian teams:rolleyes:

Works at this time of the year, and after the mid season break, but that is all. The Lions accepted the 5 day break due to the fact that it gives us our one chance a year to host a big game, but if it were not early in the year, I am guessing they would not be too keen.

So the bulk of the crappy timeslots are forced upon the teams outside Victoria, while the MCG gets night games during winter while the indoor TD remains empty?

Haven't thought that one through eh?

I don't really care what days they play as long as 7 doesn't have broadcast rights because you can be absolutely certain that Perth viewers will not get it live if they do.

I like the idea of the following -

Thursday Night
Friday Night
Saturday
Saturday Night
Sunday
Sunday Twilight
Monday Night

The eigth game should be "flexed" between Saturday, Sat Night and Sunday to best allow balanced recoveries and to best suit who is playing.

One/Ten and 72 should have access to show any game that is not Foxtel exclusive live to any market that 7 chooses not to. I think that should be the number one part of the next TV rights deal. Right now Perth get the Friday Night game after it is over, I don't care if 7 want to shaft everyone and do that, but they should have to play it at 6:30 on their 2nd or HD channel or allow One/Ten to show it instead.

Obviously the other games would require similar, I think personally that as One and Ten have shown far more dedication to promoting, marketing and bettering the broadcast of the sport they should get exclusive broadcast rights for the Thursday and Monday night games.

It is ridiculous that 7 get exclusive access to a game and then don't show it or wait until it is over to start showing it. Hopefully the AFL fixes this, whether it be by giving all the games to One, all the games to Foxtel or making it a contractual requirement.

The biggest problem is the exact same problem with Sunday football. They WILL not get the same crowds however will get good ratings. The problem is that the TV money goes into consolidated revenue and the gate money goes to the home club. The financial rewards need to be reevaluated in light of the fact that the bulk of money in the AFL comes from TV rights, including non-FTA.

Prime Time Thursday Night and Sunday Night football would be great for spectators. Makes the weekend seem to start much earlier.

I would much prefer that to Monday night football. 5 days of football (Thurs night-Mon night) is just too long, great for us maybe but really bad for the players and clubs in terms of preparation time. Footy over 4 days (Thurs night-Sun night) is much better.

Im loving the thursday night footy. I would go to a game on a thursday, though the league wont get big crowds, thats a given, but i'd say the crowds will be better than on monday nights.
I personally strongly dislike the idea of monday night football. Footys over by monday and footy tipping results are in, debrief done, footy forgotten about for a few days. If we have monday nights it will just go on forever..
It might work in america, but monday nights wont work here.. port adelaide will get sub-20,000 crowds on monday nights, even if they were playing at adelaide oval...
