Mitchell is going to be a gun midfielder. Why would we trade him to you for a forward who is probably the 10th best forward in the league right now (probably worse than that).

A F/S that was touted as a top 10 draft pick. He hasn't played because he has had his injuries this year. I think you're overstating Tippett's worth if you think we'd give up Mitchell to get him. Assuming you'll be wanting a draft pick to go with it.

So.. Mitchell is worth a top-10 pick. Tippett is worth a top-10 pick, plus a pick in the 11-20 range. You do the math..

I feel like nothing is going to get done until all these compo picks get sorted, AFL have really bugged this whole Free Agency/Trade period thing up. I think looking at the amount of speculation from both Swans and Crows boards no one has the foggiest idea of what will happen. Nobody knows what Port will get, as they lost Pearce and Chaplin, who together make up more in salary than Goddard, so will they get a first round pick as well? Would put everyone after pick 7 back another rung.

They can't let the post-season stretch on forever. They've modified it this year so that it runs for 4 weeks - 1 week for FA deals, 2 weeks for both FA and trading, 1 week for trading alone.

This is the first year that the AFL has had FA in place. I suspect that they'll do things differently in 2013, based on the lessons learned this year. I think it's harsh being overly judgemental on them, given that they had no idea how FA & trading would interract with each other (ie clubs holding off on trading until they know what compo picks they have from FA moves).

Does not deserve it. Tippett is overrated and i do not want him at the Swans if he is going to cost Mitchell. The Swans can win next years premiership without him.

I don't think they will do this though. E.G. Bris wanted to know what was happening with the Tippett trade before they would sign other free agents. If FA happens and then trading, they can't do this, therefore limiting movements in FA. Has to overlap IMO.

That is the risk clubs need to take, it is the same as not trading for a player based on using a draft pick (or vise versa)

IMO the compo picks are more important than 1 or 2 clubs being conservative in their approach to trading.

I agree with your first point, it is crazy. However I would add there shouldn't be compo it is just plain stupid.

I think they can keep it at 4 weeks, FA period 2 weeks and the 2 weeks trading.

If they get rid of the compo picks the issue also goes away.

and yet you're club is offering the "10th best forward in the league" a million dollars. Imagine how much of that extra salary cap money you would have to use if he was a top 3 best forward in the league.

The compenstion system for free agency is a joke as well when clubs have manipulated the process in order for them to secure compensation picks.

Surely the Monfries deal will be the catalyst for a significant change to the FA system next year.
