Mmmmm ....if that happened as we have only 3 picks "currently" .....our picks would be 11, 19, 22 , none of the others to be used

Any players come in like GHS or Pears means we have to chop another player ....correct?
Or does reading between the lines ....mean we'll be trading player for player?
If we have a decent 4th or 5th pick, we may look to trade them away to improve our earlier picks, as there will be quite a few clubs picking after our 3rd pick.

Going by the clubs comments today, I suspect we will only trade for a decent player of need if we can take advantage of the cap squeeze, but not a fringe type, as we probably need to chop another player. If we have cap space, reward some of our players who have committed to our clubm by front-loading their contracts, which will free up future years to either hold players who go up in value or allow us to target a gun player.

I'm just not sure we'd be happy with pick 3 for Tippett. Also would depend on whether GWS rates Mitchell as better than what they could get for pick 3 in the draft.
You wouldn't be happy with pick 3 for Tippet

Mitchell to GWS
Tippett to Sydney
Toumpas (pick 3) to Adelaide

It simply comes down to who GWS prefer? Toumpas or Mitchell?
And are Sydney willing to let him go?

I feel this would be a much harder sell. Going from the premiers to the bottom side in the same city would be a massive kick in the guts. Could you imagine us trading Brad Crouch to Port Adelaide and him being happy and willing to accept it?

Mitchell seems like a traditional football kid who would thrive i the Melbourne spotlight rather than the anonymity of GWS.

The more I see of Josh Jenkins the more I mancrush on him. Fast becoming my favourite character at the AFC.

Hope he stamps himself as Tippett's replacement next year.

I would be happy if we could get Toumpas, and from what Noble has been saying, and other rumours around, I don't think Noble would settle for 3, no.
If you would't take pick 3 there is no chance of a trade happening.

We have room for taking 1 player via trade. Callinan's upgrade counts towards the mandatory 3 draft selections, so that part of the equation doesn't change.

If alex's proposed trade went through (and it appears quite reasonable to me), then Adelaide would have picks 11, 19, 22, 42 - but only 3 list vacancies. We could then afford to trade 2 of those picks to Geelong for GHS - eg 22 & 42, leaving us with 2 picks inside the top-20 and 2 list vacancies. ** Assuming that the AFC are as keen on GHS as the BigFooty masses appear to be.

Note that Callinan's upgrade is locked in, using our "last selection" in the ND. We could trade away everything from R2-6 and pick him up in R7 for all that matters.

For all the hysteria surrounding players wanting to leave Adelaide, the reality is most of those remaining are very happy to be playing for AFC.

I think it's getting close to the mark.

What's probably more likely is:
Mitchell -> GWS
Pick #3 (GWS) and #22 (Syd) -> Adelaide
Tippett -> Syd

*** This is heavily dependent upon whether GWS are prepared to give up pick #3 for Mitchell. While he's definitely worth a top-10 pick, I'm not sure that he's worth pick #3.

True Alex. But, in all honesty, if you wanted to win flags and you were only 19, is there a better club in the AFL to be at than GWS?
On the flip side, would their be a worst AFL club to be at than Port if you want to win flags?

I reckon that 22 would end up at GWS not Adelaide...

Pick 3 is ample... Seriously guys

Didn't GWS try to employ his dad as well? Maybe they could sell a package deal like Scully.

But let's be honest, 19 year old kids (in the AFL System) don't care about winning a premiership. They only care about getting one game and then they take it week by week.

I'm sure his list of properties at picking a club wouldn't involve a premiership just yet.

I know its not the best leaugue but Mitchell had 42 touches in a half of football in our reserves trust me GWS would trade 3 for him

The free agency model isn't too bad. There are only two things wrong with it. One is easy to fix, the other is not.

The first is the ridiculous idea that losing a player and gaining a player cancel each other out. That's rubbish. If you lose a player, you should get compensation for it. If you gain a player, good luck to you, that's the whole point of free agency, players can move to their preferred clubs without having to worry about whether the club is willing to give up draft picks. At the very least the AFL should try to work out the difference in value, rather than simply having any two players cancel out. If we were to lose Dangerfield and gain some nothing depth player looking to revitalise his career somewhere else, I'd hope that the compensation we receive would be almost as good as if we hadn't received the depth player at all. Of course, in the current system, we'd just tell the depth player we don't want them, completely ruining the entire point of introducing free agency to begin with!

The second problem is that the AFL determines the compensation either ad hoc, or via a formula that is not public knowledge. Very much open to corruption.

There is the third problem that people have raised - that everyone is penalised whenever a free agency trade goes through because another pick is added to the draft and so every pick after it has one additional player already taken. One way to partially alleviate this would be for the compensation to take the form of draft pick upgrades, rather than brand new picks. The AFL might decide that losing Knights warrants an upgrade of our pick 21 to, say, pick 15. I'm just pulling numbers out of the air here, mind you, and it would be even more difficult for the AFL to come up with a public formula for this model, but let's pretend it could work. The clubs with picks 15-20 (now 16-21) would still be penalised by this model, but every pick after pick 21 would be no different to before, making it less of an imposition on the draft overall. Of course, for this model to work free agency would need to be held before trade week, but then it's pretty obvious that it should be anyway.

Hell, the AFL could even make a bit of a spectacle out of it (don't they just love doing that!) by giving the clubs multiple options. Want to upgrade your pick 40 all the way into 25, or your pick 10 into to 8?

Sydney getting off too lightly here.

Syd lose Mitchell and 22 to GWS
GWS lose pick 3 and Giles to Adelaide
Adel lose Tippett to Syd.

Ah who frickin knows!

Then there is the GHS, Pears rumours.

Dunno how we can fit them in, but i guess we could offload Tambling or Joyce, and re-rookie if not selected elsewhere.
