OK, dug up the figures below, which makes me think the COL is a bit more bullish!t by the Vlad the Master Manipulator to give Sydney and GWS an advantage. Wouldn't be because that is the big potential market he wants to crack would it?

On these figures WCE and Freo should be getting any COL allowance.

But I agree with the common sense of Jenny and other posters:
- have a modest set amount for players under $100k (or $150k) per year contracts
- have this approved for each case by the AFL and administered by the AFL
- Sydney and GWS to have the same salary cap as all other clubs.

Median weekly rent of 3-bedroom houses, by capital city
Source: Real Estate Institute of Australia

September 2009

Sydney $360
Melbourne $310
Brisbane $340
Adelaide $295
Perth $365

If players wanted to rent more than a 3 bedroom house in a fancy suburb then that is their decision. They're big boys on big money.

But how could KT fit in his brother, father and surfboard into a 3bdr house?

I'd suggest that those figures are pretty inaccurate now though boff, I live in Perth and you're lucky if you could rent a shoebox for that coin.

If any state could argue for a COL allowance at the moment it'd be Perth to be quite honest.

hoping today we will find out our fine so we can start moving on and think about who we can draft with whatever pick we end up with...
not so worried if we only cop a big fine, we were about to blow it all on tippett if he stayed anyway so it's more like a big payment to get someone to take out the trash.

so basically adelaide players should have a negative 9.8% cost of living disallowance because rent is cheaper here.
that ought to bring people to our club!

I'd also suggest that an AFL player doesn't live in an "average house"

Now that Tippett is not being traded - but is being drafted - can anyone explain to me how him wanting to get to the Swans ISN'T draft tampering?

And please don't use AFL logic. It's an oxymoron.

Mick doesn't think Tippett is worth $1 mil a year...he would be among the majority now...going to be interesting what the merc gets in the end..other than a lifetime of booing from crows fans.

Kurt must be filled with a lot of self confidence right about now.

Smart move by Malthouse, if Sydney end up paying that it's got to put even more doubt amongst his new teammates that they are being ripped off by this intruder

and probably an even bigger obstacle for other teams will be skirt's attitude...he'll sook and tell every other club he only wants to play for sydney.....if he does a real pout as I'm sure he's capable the other teams will be so put off by his 3 year old demeanor that they'll let him go....

His conduct thus far has bought him an afl investigatiion for draft tampering and may yet bring deregistration. Refusing to speak to any club now would be professional suicide.

As always Sheedy is playing smart. He has moved the issue of his recruitment into the media where it is now public fodder. The memedia will now follow this closely and tippett s every move will be scrutinised. If he attempts to tamper again by screwing with gws Sheedy has set it up so a media sh..t storm will follow with the Afl not far behind.

Kurts in trouble here and he knows it.

honestly, the cost of living is a irrelevant to single blokes earning +
$200k - heck unless these guys have 10 kids I'd suggest that the cost of living is completely irrelevant to any AFL player in any capital city.
Most AFL players seem to share places with teammates until they're well into their mid-20s anyway. Way longer than someone with that much money should.

Funny the Perth median is higher than the Sydney median :)
That's a relatively recent phenomenon, thanks to the mineral boom. Historically, Sydney has always been the most expensive city in Australia.

The fact that this is no longer the case could/should see Sydney's CoL allowance slashed, if not eliminated entirely.

This, after Sheedys latest comments they obviously want him and will try to meet with him to see if he wants to come. Surely given the heat on him he is not in a position to say no. C'mon Sheeds use your charm

St Kilda freed up some of their salary cap last night... would love to see Kurt end up there.

No I believe Gram's salary will still be on their books next year.

This is why the Sydney CoL is a farce. If the AFL really believed in CoL then Adelaide based clubs would get a lot less than the other cities other than possibly Geelong and the Gold Coast. CoL is all about ensuring AFL in Sydney is successful and brings Tv ratings. If they did decide to do it properly the only appropriate measure would have to be the price of a Latte for Vlad as he visited each club.

so next time kurt comes to adelaide to play the crows what will be nice if everyone could bring big fake moneybags or something, any idea's ?

I'd rather a giant banner, going around the entire ground.

"**** YOU KURT YOU SELFISH GOOD FOR NOTHING **** AND **** YOUR ****** DAD AND MANAGER TOO. BTW GO CROWS!!!"
