It wasn't a kick, but more a fend-off. If a fend-off goes high, it's a free against. Usually, fend-offs are done with a palm, so there is little chance of causing injury and a free kick is sufficient.

That said, if you stick your elbow up to fend off a player and he runs into it, you'll get suspended. Even if you are stationary and the player runs into it, you'll be in trouble. Same with a fist. You stick your fist up - not strike - but put it in a position where a player runs onto it and breaks his nose, it will be a suspension.

I don't see why this should be any different. It might not be intentional, but it is certainly careless.
Tom Mitchell last week.
Not even looked at.

If Greene gets penalised absolute disgrace footy is about keeping your eye on the footy and getting it, beating your opponent that is coming at you most times trying to hurt you. If you've played the game you will comprehend. He took the ball while protecting himself with his body, arms legs, whatever FFS! If an opponent comes in trying to spoil without anticipating the contact we'll a lesson needs to be learnt. 000's of Aussie rules players across the country play the game this way full stop!

Of course he was, doesn't mean he can stop momentum on a dime.

His momentum carried him into the boot, Greene didn't karate kick him or aim for his face, just stuck out the boot to protect the area and unfortunately an opponent ran into it.

It's a case of shit happens in footy.
If he'd stuck his elbow up and Dal ran onto it, do you think it would be in the clear?

I think he had his arms up to grab the footy and the player ran onto it. Completely different. His arms weren't there to fend off the player but to get the ball. It was an accident.

QUOTE: "THE BALL WAS THERE"

Wouldn't get away with that today. Hell, there have been a lot of rule reinterpretations since then. The latest rule is quite simply, the head is sacrosanct regardless of the circumstance.

Depends on the circumstances.
Eg if a player is about to get tackled so lifts his arms to keep the hands free then gets blindsided by an opponent who runs into his elbow there's no case to answer.

Greene scenario will be determined by whether they believe 1) it was intentional and 2) if it wasn't intention does the action constitute something that could be considered "normal" in that instance.
As I posted out a few posts ago; Bont did the exact same thing taking the mark before his shot on goal.

Tom Mitchell had the ball and stuck a forearm up as a tackler came in, elbow got him flush on the nose and the tackler got a free kick.

No different to this, Greene stuck out a foot and another player ran into it.

It wasn't a mark it was a handball receive.

I think his intent was to fend off the player. His foot wasn't there by chance.

Completely depends on the circumstances, if he put his arms up to take the ball and Dalhaus ran into it of his own volition (Greene was standing, no swing of the arm) then no.

Again, Greene was protecting the space which he had every right to do, he took the ball facing an oncoming opposition player and funnily enough he was the one in the vulnerable position as Dalhaus could have poleaxed him as soon as he came down, therefore he can defend his space, which he did, unfortunately Dalhaus ran into the boot because he was running in at speed and couldnt pull up.

The poster stated Dahl ran into his foot. Blaming Dahl for the incident. Thug stuck his foot out straight at Dahl who couldn't have expected that. Dahl had no chance of stopping

It's a thug, doing another dirty dog act

I'd have to have a look at it again. I might be thinking of a different incident, TBH.
