What's the difference between Greene's action against the Bulldogs and his action against the Lions?

Why is the first one a fine and the second one a suspension?
Last week Greene was fined because the AFL dropped one specific element of the serious misconduct charge - the part about Greene making contact with Marcus Bontempelli’s eyes.
This time, Greene has been specifically suspended because he made contact with Lachie Neale’s “eye region”.
Greene’s action was graded as intentional with high contact and low impact.

Except they (opposition players) target him because they know the umpires have itchy trigger fingers when it comes to blowing frees against him.

He’s not looking for anything.
Is that why after every goal he finds the nearest oppo player and thumps them in the chest?

Has to get off if there's any consistency. Based on that, I wonder who they'll replace him with.
I can accept that most posters don’t have a legal background but surely some have served on a jury. Did the judge allow you to have prejudices, consider previous cases or ask for consistency???

Doesn't that also describe what he did against the Bulldogs?

The AFL has opened a real can of worms for the remaining finals. The gloves have been removed and they have sanctioned it.

By the way I'm actually hoping the Giants make it through to play collingwood, and that Toby gets up to his old tricks. The Pies fans won't allow him to leave the stadium alive...

Just going to quote myself from last week here.

The gloves were taken off and Toby took full advantage as I predicted. The AFL's decision to suspend him is totally contradictory to the previous ruling, especially considering that Saturday night's actions were less severe.

As long as GWS have a decent lawyer I'm 99% sure he'll have the ban overturned.

LLLLLLOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL OMG.

How's that KOOL AID tasting Giant Pete?!?!?!

30,000 members MY LEFT NUT. GWS average attendance is less than 20,000 for the year and you've just made the prelim :drunk: :drunk:

Home game attendance average: roughly 12,000. And that includes all the grounds staff, the opposition supporters (probably the majority of that figure) and the AFL "new franchise bonus" of about 6,000 imaginary supporters.

LLLOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I heard Gold Coast's membership for the year is ten million. LOL.

And this shows how dumb you are

You don't have to attend a game to be a paying member.

I am a paying member of Freo but live interstate and have not been to a Perth game for 3 years.

Poor little Toump Ass will learn to think before he speaks one day

Juries decide verdicts. No verdict was needed last week (Greene pleaded guilty)

Juries don’t decide punishments, judges do. And they factor in previous convictions when they do it.

The MRO has shown prejudice by suspending him based on previous actions.

The MRO has shown prejudice by suspending him based on previous actions.

Guilt or innocence - nothing to do with previous actions (he pleaded guilty last week, he is alleged by MRO to be guilty this week)

Punishment if guilty - IIRC MRO / Tribunal can and do impose lesser / greater punishment for first / serial offenders?

I used to defend Kane Cornes but not anymore.

His faux tough guy stance on Greene is pathetic.

I respect Kane for having such a long career. Obviously his main attribute was amazing endurance and fitness.

But now he is retired and pretending to be a tough guy, it is just embarrassing.

"Once you are out there, you are fair game" is complete rot.

Once you are "out there" you still need to play within the actual rules of the actual game.

This faux tough guy talk from a bloke who was never tough is a joke.

If someone punched his lights out off the ball, when play had stopped, I doubt he would be saying he was "fair game" because he was "out there".

Moron.

Melbourne's member ship:
45,248

Avg crowd:
28,968

Number of derbies:
5 (6 if you include the Sths fans of Sydney)

And well over 100 years old.

I wouldn't be questioning others membership numbers.

I’m telling you what happened. Each case is considered separately. If you feel that crying and sooking about it serves any worthwhile purpose feel free to continue.
Who's crying? I'm merely questioning the inconsistency.

What is the material difference between the incidents that explains the difference in penalty?

If both actions are similar then they should be dealt with the same way. Both sent straight to the tribunal or both penalised with a direct suspension.

But no, The MRO isn't happy that he didn't heed the 'warning' last week so they make up a new interpretation to get the outcome they want.

Fagan says Neale said no contact to the eye, startled him for a few seconds but then no further impact. If he is called to testify, surely that gets Greene off? It would be hard to charge him with "contact to the face" that didn't cause any impact to the player.
