Tom Boyd

In a team otherwise bereft of quality tall timber, he is absolutely not underpaid - just played a massive role in them winning a prelim and a grand final.
And that means he's worth $1 million per year?

Tell me, how many players in the league do you reckon are worth $1 million a season?

There's not many if you ask me.

Who else would have been able to do that, and where are they on the Dog's list?
Well, one of the Dogs supporters reckons Boyd will finish 15th in their B&F.

So what are the players who finish above him worth?

What was Redpath worth when he was getting picked before Boyd?

You haven't really grasped what just happened, how do you put a price on a key cog in a GF team when you didn't have a replacement?
You put a price on every player on the list, don't you?

How else do clubs agree contracts?

And I don't see how anyone could argue that Boyd has been worth $1 million per season since joining the Dogs, his performance today notwithstanding.

In the adult world, a player who was recruited to fill a gaping hole; is paid entirely on potential and the dream that he might one day help a club win a flag – and then delivers no less, is worth every penny of that amount of money.

What have you got here exactly?

Blind Freddy knew he was recruited on potential, and to make a statement to the raiders, that the Dogs weren't going to be picked over.

What part of the $1 million a year they paid on this basis was misspent exactly? The team just won a flag, and he paid a big part in that happening.

And that means he's worth $1 million per year?

Great game. I thought he was in the mix for the Norm Smith. What a moment to announce himself as "arriving" as an AFL footballer. If anyone said his recruitment was going to buy the Dogs a Flag then everyone would have done it. As may others have said, Sydney haven't got one with Buddy and Boyd is only 21. I can see yesterday as the biggest confidence boost ever for Boyd . There is no looking back now.

What a cop out.

You know he's been overpaid to date but can't bring yourself to admit it. I don't really understand why that's the case.

So you're willing to make that call after two years but can't say whether he's been overpaid to date or not?

Surely you can't have it both ways.

I'm not disputing his contribution to today's GF win. But that doesn't mean he hasn't been overpaid to date. He has. Clearly.

I don't think that will be necessary. Your response makes it clear you know he's been overpaid to date but don't want to say so. Otherwise you'd just say 'no, he's been worth a million bucks a year'. But he hasn't. And everyone knows it.

No. You can't even tell me how much he was paid for his two years of service to date. It is difficult for you to craft a cogent argument in the absence of this information. And it shows in your posts.

I guess it depends what you want in a big man and whether you're paying for potential or past performance.

You're currently paying Jack Darling a boat load because he kicked 50 goals once 5 years ago. He's now the biggest pea-heart squib in the league and doesn't want any part of doing what it takes to win finals.

Boyd in this year's GF was better than Kennedy & Darling combined last year, and will only get better. I mean, well done on saving some money by paying Darling to be a giant squib for the foreseeable future, but does that make your team a winner and you happy? I'll answer: Your team was embarrassed in last year's GF, Kennedy & Darling were rubbish and you sound miserable.

Your club would kill to have Tom Boyd next year. Good luck running out Drew Petrie's corpse and whichever other giant stiff you have left on your list. You can celebrate your salary cap savings while we watch replays of Tom Boyd kicking arse in our premiership.

Go Dogs. Go Tom.

Well, it can be 40 if you want to lower the bar.

If you're paying a guy a million bucks a year, how many goals do you reckon he needs to kick to justify that wage?

Just lowering the bar again. Boyd was drafted and recruited as a key forward.

So people should stop carrying on like his massive contract has now been totally vindicated on the back of one great performance.

And that would be complete bullshit because you'd have paid a guy $7 million to play 30 games.

Why say something that is so obviously ridiculous?

That would be just as true if he was earning half as much.

Is Jason Johannisen worth a million bucks a year too? Because "his contribution helped deliver a flag" so I guess that means the sky is the limit. How about Liam Picken and Matthew Boyd? Sign them up? Six figures for all.
I'm no economist, but pretty sure they're all on 6 figures.
Boyd recruited for a premiership, Doggies win premiership, wage justified.

Could play shit for the rest of his career, doesn't matter, a premiership is what it's all about.

Sweet Jesus you aren't coping with this very well are you?

We recruited Boyd to win a premiership. He's done that.

What happens from here on out is meaningless. He delivered on the biggest stage and played a massive role in us breaking a 62 year drought.

Without him we don't win the prelim. Without him we don't win the flag.

He bombed a goal from 60 to win the game FFS. Boyd is now a Bulldogs legend for life.

Ow my God.

If I wasn't married I'd turn for you.

He doesnt have to justify any salary. He helped them win a premiership and thats what he was recruited to do. Salary is now a redundant argument.

Completely. The dogs are under the salary cap and are now premiers. How they allocated their cap is now historical trivia.

Yep, was going to say that they've not looked back as a club since they were bold and turned the Griffen departure into a positive.

If they win on Saturday, people are going to just look a bit petty trying to maintain the deal was a failure. You think WB fans will give a **** then??

*coughs*

It's one thing to be ignorant, it's another to hang it out for all to see.

Hickey beat Gawn twice this year head-to-head. Was BOG in the second game.

You might want to watch more and post less.

All aussie ruck says enough - Hickey beating gawn twice did well for your finals campaign
