Hogan is already a star and will get better. No way they will get him for 800k though so not sure where you got that figure.

Hard to judge Boyd but he hasn't done anything yet. Usually
Young forwards would have a good game here or there.

He kicked four goals against The Hawks in the sopping rain in Tasmania when we got pumped. He's had plenty of good games but people will never be satisfied

Of course he's injured. And what about when he wasn't injured and stuck in the VFL?
Last year? He was 19.
Just think of the headlines "2nd year player plays reserves football to find form".
I'm shocked to be sitting here.

Our game plan revolves a lot around defensive press and rebound forward so it would put extra pressure on our mids, can't see two big guys locking the ball in with Campbell and Roughead sharing ruck duties.

It's a tempting thought but looks better on paper.
Roughead could play back, would be better than Roberts
Then have Boyd and red up forward
Not to tall

Hogan is not a star yet he can't kick

Travis Cloke Mark 2 at the moment

And Freo are loaded if you don't think they will offer him at least 800k for at least 5 years you are kidding urself

Hogans a star he's just a confidence player. Don't make us look foolish Hogan is a jet and worth tonnes more than Boyd currently.

With that being said we don't need Boyd to be a 100 goal a year forward he needs to kick 50-60 in his prime and we might just reach the promised land...

Hogan is a freak superstar. He also has no bearing on this discussion.

Boyd is a good young developing forward. Has plenty to work on, his biggest issue being his tank. Once that improves he'll be a solid player for the Bulldogs to build a forwardline around.

I wasn't comparing Hogan to Boyd I was stating my opinion of Hogan and to me he looks like Cloke Mark 2.

He has a major kicking flaw that may hold him back from ever being as good as he can be.

Still not sold on Boyd myself to be honest As I've said in the dog forum. Think he will come good and have no problem with the money we spent on him but don't see him being a star

Hogan goes to Freo 100% in my book

Why is Boyd coming in right away???

They seem to have it set perfectly with roughead as ruck/Kpd campbell as ruck /Kpf and redpath kpf, if Boyd plays u most likely drop redpath or roughead which I think is a mistake anyways deff feel he is a waste of money may become good but doubt he will be one million dollars good

Don't forget tom Boyd is paid more than tom lynch!!!!!!!!

With the salary cap increase what is "1 million dollars good"?
A good to great structural key forward who kicks 50ish a year and draws defenders is all he needs to be to be worth the money. Anything more is a bonus.

Might never be 1,000,000 a season value but hey I'm happy to be 6 - 2 with some high class quality sitting on the sidelines and a young number one KPF pick yet to get anywhere near his best.

Think Roughead might be the one to lose his spot in the end to Boyd. Think Redpath deserves a crack week in week out. Boyds issue is that he know has got the tank to play at AFL level but lost the strength that made him such a dominant junior. Just needs more time.

As evident by our re signings he's not the reason if we lose players, which with our list we really shouldn't be losing much high class quality of any.

The point of the media is to sell papers. They are always looking for their next article.

The Bulldogs signed Boyd on a long-term contract. Therefore, the objective of the media and the objectives of the Bulldogs are not aligned.

Therefore, ignore story.

Dogs fans bang on about how important he is to their structure, yet refuse to give him a game.
Pretty bloody expensive VFL player.

He ****ed up his shoulder you git. He's been carrying a shoulder issue since the preseason.

Hawkins was drafted 06 and it wasn't until 11 finals series that it all came together. Boyd is a similar style of player so way too early to give up on him yet.

In saying that, while the dogs have re-signed their own despite the big contract there is the opportunity cost of not being able to add more players because of it. If you look at Geelong over the last two years, dismissing Dangerfield because of the unique situation re moggs creek, then $1 million would be pretty close to what Henderson, Stanley and Smith - 3 afl standard talls recruited to fill gaps from other teams - would be on combined. It's a big price to pay.

I think the Dogs decision to go after Boyd was the right move. Wether he will be the gun that they hope we dont yet know, but they were in need of KPF and they went out and got the number 1 draft pick KPF.
The fact that they are still playing good football and Boyd isnt important to their chances of winning is more a sign of their lists strengths and how good they are playing.

will develop into a dawes type quality player. worth a quarter of what he's getting paid. but hey - structure!

So who are St Kilda overpaying?

The Dogs and St Kilda operate under the same salary cap. Our players have won 6 games, yours have won 2 and got flogged by 100 points today.

Everyone laughs at our 21 year old key forward who is apparently playing VFL despite being injured, but it seems to me like our list is in a pretty good spot.

Exactly, a statement had to be made about GWS pinching Griffen and we just did what they would do while finally picking up a highly rated key forward.

All of our key young players are signed up for multiple years. Boyd is heavily front loaded and will be on much more reasonable money when our young players come out of contract again.

Could have enticed 2 metre Peter for half as much money but nah let's go for the lumbering big man who is gonna be a relic of the game and more then likely VFL.

Tom Boyd is similar to Justin Koschitzke
Jake Stringer is mobile like Nick Riewoldt

Having a big tall brute in the forward line does not work anymore, just ask Travis Cloke, heck even Tom Hawkins is not kicking bags. And with all due respect Tom Boyd will never be as mobile as Lance Franklin either so won't be kicking bags of goals either. Doggies will be lucky if he turns out even as good as Money Tippett or have a break out few games like Kosi did then vanish again.

At least if they had bought Peter Wright they would have saved a bunch of money they can give to their fringe forwards like Dead Eye Tory Dickson, and others like Redpath in addition to giving the players who were loyal for life like Boyd, Morris and Murphy a little bit of a top up thank you gift too.

Well that was a load of bullshit. Do you feel better now? Less bloated.
We still have over $800, 000 in the salary cap and all our stars signed, fun times ahead.

Not sure why you're stating an opinion on Hogan in a Tom Boyd thread?

You saying Tom Boyd will be better then Peter Wright guaranteed then?

Or maybe the real question should be if Tom Boyd and Bontempelli had both been available at number 4 in the 2013 draft who would your team have chosen?
