Tom Boyd

Dogs fans are taking this way too personally... You blokes are doing fine without him, would be better to try and offload him now and free up the significant cap space he's wasting.

Umm no we don't take it personally it's simply a moronic argument for so many reasons.

1- no bulldog fan expects him to be playing like a million dollar player. We are not stupid enough to think he is worth that bit getting him to the club was about more than him being a footballer.
2- he is 19 years old for god sake!!
3- we have everyone signed up we have lost no one due to his contract and won't.
4- if he bombs he bombs we had a crack that's all we care about
5- why is it only a couple of clubs rest care about this kid???
6- we don't care!!!

LOL... Yes you would be so diplomatic of this was any other club.

Sometimes there is a stink on a player (see Richard tambling) that will never be washed off and right now, unfortunately for Tom Boyd, the stench on him can be smelt everytime he goes near a contest.

The Boyd situation proves that you cannot have a logical argument with anyone who has aligned themselves to a particular team.

You paid too high a price for luring Boyd to the club and could have used the money elsewhere. Your club made a mistake, we just have to wait and see whether it was a relatively minor one, or a terrible one. Just admit it and move on. It's frankly embarrassing that so many of you can't admit what is plainly obvious to everyone else.

Haha funny

We know he is over paid and alway will be we just hope he becomes a decent player and we can recoup some of the money

HE IS 19 !!! To judge a Kpf at 19 is only done by people who have no idea about football.

He's actually two weeks away from his 21st birthday, but ok...

Where could we have used the money?

We have re-signed everyone and still have room in our cap to get another "big fish" this year??

We all know he is over paid but it hasn't effected us at all. We haven't lost a single player and have room to sign more.

If he busts he busts but he hasn't lost us anything and that's fairly obvious to anyone.

The premise of the article is Peter Gordon trying to convince us that Peter Gordon isn't involved in list management decisions.

Peter Gordon doesn't do a very good job.

But hey, Peter Gordon got his name in the paper again so it's all good.
Agree. Peter Gordon is clearly a micro manager, hence why their CEO resigned after less than twelve months. You don't leave an executive position and then resign from another after twelve months unless something is seriously wrong.

Buddy, he turns 21 in a couple weeks

Who exactly could we have used the money in elsewhere?

We offered Tom Lonergan $500k per year days before Griffen walked out and he rejected it.

I'd love people to offer advice on "who" we should have got instead of Boyd? Who are the plentiful key forwards who were so willing to come to the club at the time. Explain an alternative involving an existing player and not a punt on Peter Wright who slid from a "possible" pick 1 to being selected at pick 8? I'm always fascinated as to what the alternative was when the club was on its knees, begging for a good news story? And please don't tell me the draft was the answer. Only morons would suggest that.

Yeah sorry though he was 19 turning 20

It still stands he is a kid

We are still 2-3 years away from knowing if he makes it. So another 3 million in his pocket and that's the reality

We can't change it and it hasn't hurt us so we really don't care. We all hope he breaks out but we had a gamble sometimes you win sometimes you lose but most dog fans were just rapt we finally had a crack.

Wright would've been no more of a punt than Boyd was.

Wright would've been no more of a punt than Boyd was.
It's easy to say that in hindsight.

There is would have not have been a single person employed at an AFL club that would have taken Wright ahead of Boyd in November of 2014.

Boyd was the best U/18 key forward of this generation. Wright was "only" a top 10 draftee key forward.

We were dealing with GWS due to Griffen and no one even knew who Wright was at that stage.

You could say we should have chased Lynch by that logic
If your football department didn't know who Peter Wright was a month before the draft then jee whiz.

You know that's 90% of the reason why people call the trade into question yeah? It's a very valid reason until he performs, keep sticking your fingers in your ears though.

It's a 7 year contract not even half way through and "people" are calling it?

Lol amusing the amount other supporters worry about us p!ssing our money away and the annoyance they seem to have at it.

And again WE don't care if it doesn't work out. We took a gamble and sometimes they don't work out

Why? Don't you understand the fact that the market dictates wages in the current environment? It's not the same competition as 5-10 years ago. It's got nothing to do with what a player delivers, just what a club wants to pay to get that player. You should know that what a player delivers is not reflective of his salary.

I disagree with your economics and business theories.

Google the word "value". It's how everyone is judged.

Now this may change and his value may in time be commensurate with his income, but right now it's an epic failure.

Btw, I don't have a problem with the decision to punt on him, I'm just providing a current evaluation.

He will retire an extremely rich person.
If he fails he has $6mil
If he explodes and becomes a superstar then he will want an even bigger contract for his prime years.
