His first goal was a result of the softest free kick of the night and they paid him a few more soft ones after that (& a 50).

No idea why he's in the ruck. He's clueless in ruck contests. If they are going to use him at least bring a third man up.

Boyd was pretty good last night, obviously needs performances at that level consistently to justify the contract.

Good on him though for withstanding the criticism and produce a good performance

Wright barely touched it on Morris against us either. Despite having a bazillion cms on him.

Unfair on Wright because not many players beat Morris who is a real champ. I suspect if Morris played last night that Stanley may not have been so productive.

As for Boyd I thought that was just about the best game he has played. He us still a work in progress. I expect that his output will increase next year but he needs to be given an extended run.

Kicked more goals, had more disposals and took more marks than Hawkins.

Would have had a few more marks too but had his arms chopped and got frees instead.

More impressive was his ability below his knees. Kept his feet a lot and got some good releasing handballs

But Hawkins had to contend with AA defender Fletcher Roberts while Boyd only had VFL top up Harry Taylor on him. Gotta keep some perspective

I never realized how quick and mobile Hawkins was until I saw him play on Fletcher Roberts.

I'm a big McCartin fan, I said 12 months ago the Roughead comparison was close BUT you're selling Boyd short. Excellent decision maker, excellent field kick but agree re turning agility. He's a good footy player, he knows how to play, he kicks the ball really well and makes good decisions.

Boyd is nearly 10cms taller. Of course he won't be as agile.

His field kicking is fine when you take into account he's 2m tall

I'm a big McCartin fan, I said 12 months ago the Roughead comparison was close BUT you're selling Boyd short. Excellent decision maker, excellent field kick but agree re turning agility. He's a good footy player, he knows how to play, he kicks the ball really well and makes good decisions.

Ok ill take note and watch more.
So far i havent seen that field kicking and ground ability. It could also be his effort. No doubt the pressure on the kid has thwarted his game/effort/confidence.
The footy world never learns. Judge way too early. Lol they were calling a paddy a dud after a few pratice games too.
Ill try to hold back my judgements for another 2 years, but at 23 he would want to show more effort and consistent effort.

Boyd didn't really do either. More often than not he was hanging out the back of marking contests watching his smaller team mates fly for the ball.

He doesn't lead well. He doesn't crash packs. He's not a particularly strong mark. When he's on the ball he's clueless at ruck contests (not unusual for his age) and doesn't push forward or back particularly hard.

Extremely simplistic for a expert like yourself. I'm more than shocked at the lack of depth in your analysis.

Do you also think Libba's injury played some small part?
He was doing pretty well against Danger.

Prior to doing his hammy, McCrae was going head to head with Selwood, who had 0 kicks and 9 handpasses to half time.

Is it even remotely possible that Stanley had limited opposition? Did you notice he outmarked Caleb Daniel at one stage?

Is it possible that losing 5 blokes to injury from last week had an impact on the game?

For a bloke who understands footy like you do, you need to do a little better than you have here.

But No I dont think I am being too early . Obviously I watch saints closely and the things paddys done already have amazed me and left me in no doubt hes got it.

As you say, you don't think you're being too early. We are all free to think what we like.

All I see in McCartin is a kid with potential. I don't see anything amazing. All kids with potential do good things from time to time. McCartin's firmly in that boat.

You're hoping his concussions won't stop him (I genuinely hope so too.). He's had a few already, though, and he's still a raw kid.
I'm also hoping his diabetes doesn't interfere with his football. He's got a few obstacles in front of him, unfortunately.

He will never be Nick Reiwoldt. Not a criticism, though. Roo is an all time legend. I don't see that in Paddy, and neither do you if you're being honest.

You've drawn certainty from lots of maybes. Easy to do, but pretty unreliable when guessing on the future.
