Don't all clubs get the soft ones against Geelong?

Cats fans are the Vic equivalent of WCE and the Crows...

When your last in frees and The million dollar forward gets them as soft as he did last night, there is definetly need for question. And i remember your mob sooking in the crows game this year about frees. Short memory.

I think you have it the wrong way around - it's the crows who sooked about umpiring.

As for last night, the frees were even and Boyd finally got paid a few. Defenders usually have carte blanche to do what they want with him

I think the Triple M boys hit the nail on the head today. Last night was much better from Tom, but it's only one game and that is what he needs to be doing each week. He doesn't have to be kicking 3 goals, but at least creating good contests and getting his hands on it. I still think he needs to start clunking a few before we can start saying he's going to be a really good player though, that seems to be a weakness of his which has to be concerning for a guy his height.

$1 million dollars is a lot of money to be giving someone who merely "creates a contest". At the moment he's averaging 3 marks a game and has never taken over 6 marks. Compare that to Peter Wright and he has already taken 6 marks or more 5 times and is averaging close to 5 a game. McCartin also averaging close to 5 a game and he gets knocked out every second week.

Apologies. Your right about the crows game. The dogs showed a lot of guts last night too. They are a great team.

Was pretty good last night. First time I've seen him with some urgency and aggression. Usually he just seems to go at contests haphazardly and give up once the ball is on the ground, not last night. Hope he plays like this from now on.

A few Bulldog fans seem to have a fixation on Paddy McCartin's concussions and diabetes. He has managed his type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease, since its onset and still performed at a level which earned him pick 1 in the draft. No player is immune from concussions. Paddy, like Riewoldt is often too brave for his own good, so puts himself in a risky position more often than most.
It is the crashing of packs and amazing marking ability (hands like Stewie Loewe, "Buckets"), not just his goal kicking that makes McCartin a standout.

He is 20 years of age mate recruited as a key forward.

He is drafted for the long term.

What part of that concept don't you get?

The performance was even more impressive given the battering he's been given by the media this week.

A lot of what was published bordered in bullying and it would be understandable if he had a poor game, let alone one that was thereabouts to his form this season. But to back up the bullying with pretty much a career best performance has shown a lot of character.

fair point.

mooney conveniently suggesting he take a pay cut leading into a cats game.

or maybe it's cos his mate Zaine was playing-he wanted to prove he was worth his salary ;)

I think the comments on Paddy are because there are a stack of Saints who are fixated on Boyd's contract.

If you're unhappy with the McCartin comments, how do you think we're feeling about all the Boyd sh*t?

Spot on. Subject to more scrutiny than any player in the comp and delivered for an undermanned side.

Dogs fans have a fixation with mccartin? It's saints fans who have a fixation with Boyd - as evidenced by the three stooges joop, bird man and jeff. Just need defacto for the quaddie.

And mccartin's goalkicking is a standout? He can't kick for goal. Boyd is infinitely better at set shots. mccartin may want to focus on kicking more than two goals in a game.

That is why I compared him to two guys drafted the year after him.

I don't expect him to be dominating, but what I've said several times is that I haven't seen a lot of signs that suggests he'll be a gun. Wright and McCartin are far from dominating but they are clunking some good marks and showing signs that they'll be really good footballers in the future.

3 marks a game from a guy his size isn't a good sign IMO.

People like to bring up Hawkins as a big guy that took a while to get going, even Hawkins in his third year was averaging close to 6 marks a game. He was miles ahead of Boyd.

I'm sure he'll end up being a good player that can play that forward ruck role, but I just don't see him being a dominant forward.

Just my opinion, but it's not not something I'm bringing up just piss Dogs fans off. I rate your list very highly, I just think in hindsight the Boyd deal won't be a great one for you guys.

The opening post was comparing Boyd with Redpath and their respective contracts. That's fair enough considering relative performances. Then fuel was added to the flames recently, by the comments of your own Luke Darcy. Things then went way off track and 90 pages of baiting and other irrelevancies, interspersed with some sensible commentary followed.
Redpath has proven a steal, bit like Saints Tim Membrey, and I know I would prefer Redpath to Boyd in my team, if I had a choice.

To manofclay, not sure what you're on about when Boyd's average is 1.3 goals in 2016, yes better than McCartin's, but still not 2 gpg.

1. So do you count any comment made by grant Thomas in the media as "your own". Darcy has had **** all to do with the dogs for the past decade.

2. What I meant is mccartin has never kicked more than two goals in a game. Saints fans terribly overrate him for some cheap marks on a wing. He gets nowhere near the defensive attention Boyd does and is simply not dangerous

I think the thing that has impressed most about McCartin is that he can take a big strong pack mark, something Boyd rarely does. In fact having a quick look at their stats McCartin has taken 3 times as many contested marks as Boyd this year.

But yeah, cheap marks on the wing...

Darcy is still very involved with the Bulldogs. He was on the panel which appointed Luke Beveridge.
Think Birdman answered your query re McCartin's cheap marks.

Are you saying his form is dependant on media coverage?????
