I cannot believe the disrespect for Tom Boyd in this thread. Whilst JeffDunne and that Richmond bloke can have differing opinions to the majority at least refer to the player correctly. It is : Premiership Player Tom Boyd

What's there to expand on? Hurley outpointed Hogan in several one on one contests in round 15 2015 on his way to a best on ground performance.

I'm merely trying to point out absurdity of Hogan being so strong that he's never been out muscled although I quoted the wrong post.

Oh gotcha. Well Hurley used PED's to get strong, and Hogan was playing in about his 10th game of footy, so I doubt it will happen again.

Paying $1mil a year for a VFL player and carrying him for 2 years in the hope that he might one day have a good game in a grand final isn't a very sound investment strategy.

Who's to say that the Dogs wouldn't have gone undefeated the whole season and won this year's and last year's premierships if they had decided to look elsewhere?

Maybe you guys should trade Bontempelli and go ask Mitch Morton to make a comeback on a fat paycheck.

Gotta feel for the tiger fans I gather they are the most tragic team now the dogs won the 2016 flag Lets hope soon they can win a final and get some hope

So this year is the first year of Boyd's $1M per annum section of his contract (for those playing at home or just a bit slow, last year he was at the tail end of his rookie contract) - and we've won 1 flag....

So 1 year at $1M = 1 flag.
Year 2 at $1M = 2 flags ???
And so on....

How can people be critical of the deal ?? :p (ducks and covers)

*Premiership Player and Rightful Norm Smith Medalist Tom Boyd.

Good on him. It must be hard having his name dragged thru the mud for not being the best full forward at 20 and 21 years just because he is a former number one pick on bloody good money. Any afl player would have jumped at the chance the dogs gave Boyd. So far he isnt the worst number one pick.

All that tells me is the Dogs are going to have serious cap pressure going forward.

Just out of interest, how many votes did the 1.5M man get in the club BnF?

Explain to me Jefferson, how do you arrive at that conclusion? As we will be able to pay up to 105% in the upcoming years with Boyd salary decreasing and the salary cap increasing.

Just out of interest, how many flags has Riewoldt got compared to the 1.5M man? 0<1. And whilst we're at it 2>1. EAD

How so? We are significantly below the cap at the moment despite being at the peak cost of Boyds contract this year and by being below the cap three years running actually allows us to spend up to 105% of the cap next year so we can frontload some contracts into that year.

Interesting article today in the Herald Sun

Dogs paid less than 100% of the salary this year even with paying Boyd 1.5mil +

But, but... everyone who doesn't barrack for the Bulldogs knows better than our supporters and our list management team :drunk:

Seriously, this is our premiership defence (and how we got them) - I doubt these guys are on huge coin:

B: Morris (rookie) Fletcher Roberts (PSD pick) M Boyd (rookie)
HB: JJ (rookie) Hamling (DFA) Wood (3rd round pick 43)
Int: Biggs (rookie, picked up as a virtual freebie from Sydney)

One 3rd rounder and the rest were rookies / freebies. Next in line to come in was our FA Matt Suckling who was also a former rookie.

But please opposition supporters, tell us how we have list management issues while winning the flag at less than 100% salary cap and being able to use the AFL's 105 rule next year.
Thanks :thumbsu:

I'm honestly curious to hear JeffDunne's reasoning behind his thinking that the Dogs are under salary cap pressure despite banking cap surplus the past few years.

Maybe he thinks the premiership bonuses are going to put a squeeze on things. Thankfully the Saints don't have to worry about such things...

It aint rocket science Boris (although basic economics might seem like that to you).

Let's use Bont for example. How do you reckon his manager feels knowing 1) the Dogs have cap space & 2) his client got paid probably 30% of what Boyd got paid this year?

Multiply that effect over the entire playing squad and there's going to be a lot of players whose managers will be asking for a pay rise.
