No we would not have.

He won us the PF and GF. Has paid off every cent and can retire tommorow.

The umpires won you the PF and GF with a 43-21 free kick count, over twice as many free kicks in two close finals #freekickbulldogs

lol Paddy McCartin is Scott Cummings without his goal kicking ability or fitness.

Boyd is still an overpaid potato.

Whether Boyd is overpaid is up for debate. Problem is most don't understand what the dogs needed to do to get him and why we had to do it. That was is market price, and what a return it has been.

All teams have overpaid / underpaid players on their list. Saints would be no different.

We took a long term investment on Boyd which started paying dividends much earlier than expected.

No one inside the dogs expected this return so early from Boyd, I don't see why supporters outside the club expected him to be a dominate player this earlier in his career.

The club got its recruiting spot on, won the flag, and proved many people wrong. Too bad there are flogs out there who can't admit it though.

Sigh . . . every now and then the petty sniping and stupidity of BF really gets to me.
Boyd was amazing in the finals. He more than anyone won that Grand Final. Enjoy it for what it is. An amazing coming of age performance on the biggest stage we have.

It's jealousy more than anything.

Too bad there are too many people who can't admit they are wrong, you can really judge a person if they do (or don't)

.

Stating free kick stats simply ain't enough. Says nothing about any advantage a team may have got.

The self-claimed expert critic you are it would be wise to run through the game and comment on which free kicks should have been paid / which ones were missed etc, and the impact on the game before claiming our PF & GF were only won based on umpiring. I'm sure there were more influencing factors at play, but I doubt your understanding of football to see that

Boyd overpaid? Think of all the millions you've paid Riewoldt for his terrible grand finals and no flags. What a waste. Riewoldt's most memorable career moment is having his kick smothered by Heath Shaw on the goal line like an unsuspecting moron and then weeping in Koschitzke's arms two hours later lol. Peak Saints.

You said the other day you quit posting here about the umpires after you couldn't convince anyone to believe your idiotic ramblings? Why have you resumed the public display of defense mechanism? What triggered you last night? Did you catch a glimpse of some Dogs premiership merch on your way home from Conspiracy Club? If so, what was it? I'm looking for more premiership merch. To celebrate our premiership. Which we won.

How much did the saints pay Carlisle to rack lines on snapchat and sort of semi-rehab a hip injury this year while Boyd was winning a cup?

This is good gear though I'm enjoying it. Keep going.

Boyd was amazing in the finals.
At the rate people are re-writing history in this thread, Boyd will be a worthy triple AA & Brownlow recipient by Christmas.

He was best on in a Grand Final and kicked the match winning goal, he took huge marks all around the ground, played ruck and forward.
His achievement will be remembered many years after we've all stopped bickering about it here. He could stop playing footy now and be a legend for the rest of his life to the Dogs faithful, some of whom have waited half a lifetime for this moment.
If McCartin plays a game like that and helps the Saints to a flag don't you think you'll be a bit excited about it?
Why even try to demean what a wonderful match this was for a lot of long suffering supporters and how special it would have felt to watch a player, rightly questioned for his value rise to the occasion?

Terrible grand finals? In the 2010 drawn GF Riewoldt had 16 disposals, took 8 marks and kicked 2 goals which was as good as Boyd's performance.

The difference is we didn't win so we don't bang on about his performance like he played the greatest game in history like Dogs supporters do with Boyd.

In the 2009 GF Riewoldt had 13 disposals, took 5 marks and kicked a goal which wasn't a bad game given the wet and windy conditions that day.

If I couldn't convince Bulldogs supporters that you were favoured by the umpires by pointing out the lopsided free kick counts there's no point trying.

The bias from the umpires towards the Bulldogs in both the prelim and GF was obvious to all but one eyed Bulldogs supporters.

I'd want more that just one good game from McCartin even if he did help St Kilda win a flag by playing a good game in the GF.

Bulldogs supporters are very easily pleased if they say they don't care if Boyd never plays another good game in his career.

So what you're saying is that a 10 year player played as good a game as a 21yo, but lost?

You just don't know what you are talking about. A st Kilda flag might change your mindset but we will have to wait and see.

Collingwood were tougher opposition in 2010 than Sydney were this year, we didn't have the umpires on our side then either.

Haha Riewoldt was crap in all three grand finals. Might have picked up a few cheap stats, but the only memorable thing he did was get smothered and embarrassed by Heath Shaw and inspire Collingwood.

Riewoldt had 3 cracks at a grand final and never got a single vote in the Norm Smith. Not even 1. What a waste of the at least $10m you've paid him over 15 years. Couldn't even turn up once on three of the biggest days in the history of your club. We haven't even paid Boyd a quarter of that yet and he's already won a flag and just missed out on the Norm Smith.

No one else thinks the umpires won us any of those games. It's just you. You're actually helping our cause by going on and on about it because you're making it clear that only a nutter would actually believe that.

The more you keep crying about the umpires the more you look like a salty lunatic. So I hope you reply to this over and over and over.

Stop talking rubbish. Riewoldt never helped you win a flag and you love him.

If you could pay McCartin $5m to play one season for a guaranteed flag then retire you and any other Saints fan would do it.

If not, you must secretly enjoy being habitually tragic.

Hahaha of course, the 56 point thrashing the Pies handed you in the replay was definitely because of the 3 more free kicks the Pies received.

Didn't have anything to do with a third straight grand final no-show from Tears Riewoldt.

Bulldogs supporters still bitching about Riewoldt?

That's not surprising. He's bent them over so many times it's bound to hurt.

Pretty embarrassing though that anyone, even a Bulldog supporter, would try and compare him to Boyd. You'd have to have the football IQ of a wombat to travel down that rabbit-hole.
