Think this just about sums it up.

Watched every game he's ever played and can say categorically that he's a mediocre forward when splitting minutes there.
2 years ago he was considered a meh player.

Players develop. Plenty to work with.

Just because your opinion is that it’s a poor fit doesn’t mean the saints do - who’s talent identification in the last few years has been very good.

We evidently want him. We wanted him big time 2 years ago. Money to burn.

Two years ago you were apparently only keen on getting him for a 2nd rounder lol.

Anyway if the Saints wanna mortgage the future for a double ruck set up then good luck to him. My opinion is TDK will be at Carlton or somewhere he'll be the sole ruckman at.

If the Saints wanna Saints then nobody can stop them, it doesn't mean it's any less stupid.

Marshall and TDK are both mediocre forwards who require high minutes around the ball to impact games. Can just look at how TDK has performed next to Pittonet vs without him to see what awaits regarding splitting minutes.

Would be as dumb as the Darcy and Jackson combo, only for an even more enormous chunk of their salary cap.
That doesnt stop St Kilda making a massive play for TDK

The coaches and board at St Kilda will know what they are getting into and they would have factored in all the variations
But when it boils down to it there will be and is a massive offer for TDK that will make him the highest paid AFL player and its an offer way too good to refuse if Carlton dont increase their offer.

We will see. Plenty have turned down similar at similar clubs.

If the St Kilda offer is around the $1.7 mil mark and Carlton is $1.2
TDK wont turn that down specially with the way Carlton are playing looking a million miles away from contending for a flag

Thats why Carlton will need to significantly increase their offer to be around 10%-15% less than the saints
Im still sure he will be around atleast $1.5 mil a year player next year

That would be a massive hit on the blues cap

How are we mortgaging our future?

There is no draft collateral at steak here.

Plenty of cap room. Hence our interest in TDK Aleer and Bergman this off season

Carlton Football Club has better friends and networking opportunities for De Koning in the function rooms outside of football. Half a million dollars won't be half a million dollars less hitting his bank account.
I’m not for a second saying we will offer more via this method.

But Lyon is on record saying in the past we haven’t used it and we will going forward.

Thats great, but he's still a mediocre forward and makes 0 sense for the Saints who already have Marshall there on half the cash.

If the Saints truly are dumb enough to be offering that money for a ruckman then good luck to them, but it's absolutely horrendous list management.
Rightly or wrongly we seem intent on playing marshal mostly forward might explain the big tdk interest, I agree all our resources should be going into bringing in an elite midfielder but Theres not a lot of them available apart from ldu or entering the Reid sweep stakes both long shots . I think they look at TDK as being an actual possibility

I don't think St Kilda's friends compare to Carlton's friends. One of Carlton's friends is the AFL too.

Should be throwing the kitchen sink at players like Ed Richards. Genuine gun mid.

Carlton needs to pay up for TDK. Some of the players they have massively overpaid for will be coming off their crazy deals over the next few years and commanding far less money. That should just go to TDK.
Doubt they can afford him unless he accepts $400k over next 2 years then after that $2mill per year. A front loaded contract is better for players though because then once they received a lot of their payments can demand another trade

Totally agree. It's pretty much impossible to compete with Carlton's friends and family.

"The Carlton board had met in recent weeks and agreed to pay whatever luxury tax it would cost to get Alastair Clarkson and whichever assistants he brought in."

Caroline Wilson says the Blues were willing to exceed the soft cap to get Clarko.

Good ol Jeanne loves TDK I heard. Favourite player at the Blues!

Really, don't we have some of the more high profile supporters, especially ones with money?

Mark Dreyfus, Andrew Bassett, Lindsay Fox, Eric Banner etc.

Its the sponsorship thing we don't really have. No Cotton on or Visy etc..

I'm sure Bassett can get Tommy on the call lines at Seek on his days off

Is that the Andrew Bassett of SEEK? The absolute hilarity of him finding St Kilda players jobs they don't need to turn up for.

You'll be found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute and someone from Adelaide's coaching group will get a suspension.

If it works for Geelong and others I'm sure we can find a way.

Not sure what point you’re making here.

Your argument was that Carlton can pay outside of the cap to cover the difference. I noted that Ross Lyon has spoken about doing the very same thing - within the rules.

Money is the same. Wherever it comes in this Australia.

We are going to have an offer on the table that will result in Carlton needing to find cap room to get close enough to retain TDK.

That’s very likely the outcome from here.

Comes down to a lot of factors. I think Ross offers greater stability. I'd be moving to Saints.

It would have been a lot better for St Kilda if Eric Banner had continued on as the Hulk in the Avenger films. While they’re awful films, his star would be brighter and the Saints would have much more pull.
