Marshall is still moving fantastically and likely goes for the next 2-3 years at least. 30 for a ruck isn't even that old normally.

If it was TDK for 8-900 it would make sense, but paying him the largest contract in AFL history to split ruck duties is utterly stupid imo. I don't buy it for a minute.
The best footy we played over the last ten years was with Marshall and Ryder in the side.

It does make sense.
The club needs to match the offer to force a trade. All clubs can move payments around to be able to produce a contract that matches the offer.

Carlton doesn’t have the ability to actually facilitate absorb that contract without even further destroying its list.

And as I said, Carlton would only do the work to match the offer and force a trade once they know 100% that Tom will not stay.

Tom re-signed 2 years ago for over 750, he’s currently been offered 1.1, we have Motlop, Sos, Kemp, McGovern, Newman and Hewett currently out of contract this year at the moment. These contracts can be held of signing with principle agreements in place.

So there is the ability to match, but as mentioned, we’ll only go down that path if we need to.

Just like you guys increased your offer to Battle in the last month last year, even though you knew he was gone, and you had no intention of keeping him, the pick you got was better than what you would of got in a trade.

Carlton will access the situation when they have a complete idea of where everything is at and make the call on whether they are happy to with the compensation, they want to manipulate things and go through the trade process or TDK signs with us.

The system is flawed and every club has used it to their advantage. The only team that’s had the stones to do it so far is GWS.

There are so many other factors surrounding the compensation pick.
If we take that, then we can’t go after a free agent as it will change the value of the pick.
Things like that.
Sure.

But you’re implying the TDK would prefer a Stkilda offer at 1.7m vs a Carlton offer at 1.7m.

If you match. He is staying.

Which is why if it comes down to it, unless you can get him on a deal that is somewhat cap friendly for you - in the scheme of things. You won’t be matching anything.

St Kilda isn’t going to be pissing away assets if you are matching at 1.7m.

We will have those assets ready to go for the likes of Bergman and Aleer.

Adelaide tried bluffing the Saints by suggesting they'd be matching the Brad Crouch deal. The fact was we were only keen on him because he was a free agent.

And one big reason we would be offering TDK a ridiculous amount of money us because we wouldn't have to hand over a huge amount of draft capital.

If Carlton match the deal they will be stuck with his contract.

Worth adding, SOS won’t be mucking around here. He will want it too look like he got a win against the blues.

Landing TDK or forcing you into matching anything $1.5m will be a win in his eyes.

Same way he wanted Kemp. Then wouldn’t trade unless it was on his terms.

But hasn’t he already won with Stocker and Carroll?

Thank god you're stuck with that muppet now.

I’m sure Liam would have been thrilled seeing SOS draft two half backs with his first two picks in the draft last year.
Travaglia played midfield on the weekend and VFL in the week prior.
Tauru is a tall.

And when fit, stocker has been selected the majority of the time under Ross for 2 years. Missed this last week due to concussion

You understand that you probably had to up the offer to retain him and how that impacts the next big deal such as TDK right now… right?
Totally... Next year it will probably be the same with Walsh... Reality is nobody wants to go to the Saints. That's why your club is having to throw ludicrous amounts of cash at every player that is even half a sniff of leaving their clubs and hoping one of them sticks.

Weitering, Callaghan, Degoey, Trac... If Carlton find their early 2024 form again this season you'd probably be safe to chuck TDK in that group too.

None of that is surprising.

But if you sign TDK on 1.3-1.7m there isn’t going to be much left to do anything else and you’ll need to shed blokes who are in your best 23 today to do so.

So either way, sos is going to be thrilled. You are literally stkilda of 2008-2011 in terms of salary cap. You have most your cap invested in your 7-8 top end blokes and a crap bottom end.

Except free agency exists now and clubs can make it really tough on you.

A lot of our players are dual position. So it’s hardly a concern. We have been saying we believe Travaglia will be a midfielder when it’s all said and done since the day we drafted him.
I don’t think Stocker will be in your side when Toby and Alex eventually get in.
He’s a depth player at best.

Potentially.

But he has been a decent pick up for free for us. He was one of our better players before the concussion - which was the cause of a massive team lifting HTB.

Your opinion of stocker really isn’t going to overcome that of saints fans here.

Blues won't be signing anyone for 1.7 mil a season. We aren't a club that player managers use to leverage clubs into bumping up their original offers. That's the Saints role in the league.

I gave you a fair band. He isn’t leaving upwards of 500k a year on the table.

If he was going to do that deal. He would have already done it.
