TDK should take one for the team and use some of his $1.7 million to cover Rowan Marshall’s match payments in the VFL.

We were a MUCH better team when we had both Ryder and Marshall in there together once Ryder got going.

Our winning ratio went up significantly when both were playing, and the only final we’ve won in the last 15 years had both of them in the team, with Ryder BOG.

And Ro is a significantly better player now than he was back then.

TDK gives structure, and Him and Marshall can rotate with ruck and forward.

Structure is key

I’m with you on the overall pairing, but I’d argue Ryder was a more effective forward than TDK (granted, he was more experienced) and gave you better coverage when resting up front.

TDK may improve in that area over time and perhaps with only Max King as a partnering target he might be more effective (as opposed to both Harry and Charlie). I take your point though.

Yeah Ryder was definitely better forward than Tom is, so if Ro stays, he might have to play almost permanently forward, which would be interesting.

I think the likelihood is pretty huge that we’ll trade him if Tom comes though, as there are so many teams who would love to add Ro, and he alone could be the thing that tips a team over the edge for a flag, so one might be prepared to pay up for him.

We’re getting smashed on pretty much a weekly basis in the air though (especially long down the line), so there would also be a lot of temptation to keep him.

Don’t think that helps us win a flag as much as the pick or player we could get for him could though, so I’d probably pull the trigger and trade him, if a suitable offer came.

A top 10 pick for Tommy in his current form is a gift really.
This is his first uninterrupted season playing most games - he has shown some great signs but top 10 pick the club needs to take it.

If the Saints have put forward a firm offer that Tom has accepted, are they legally allowed to withdraw this because the official contract hasnt been drawn up?

Tom is still contracted to Carlton till the end of the season he wouldn’t be able to sign any contracts with other teams until then Theres is nothing stopping us if we did want to withdraw an offer. It won’t happen though wouldn’t be a great look for our club

No you were a much better team when Daryl Baldock was playing

Lol - it’s very short sighted if he does.

Now look inward.

You’re spending $12m over 7 years on a ruck, even though you have a great first ruck in your list.

Further to that your list holes are of Swiss origin.

SOS is destroying your list! Your senior players are falling off a cliff, right in front of you.

Tassie & northern academies about to soak up the best draft picks.

Aren’t you the least bit concerned?
To be fair though, saints have that much salary cap space that they probably struggle to reach the salary cap floor, if they have tdk 12mil at 7yrs, they should probably front end the first 2-3 yrs at 2.5mil then even after 2 yrs saints have reduced the contract to 7mil at 5yrs which is pretty manageable and then they are probably in a better position to attract players assuming tdk plays well, so they shouldn't be concerned about overpaying if they front end it because when they're competing they'll have have the space.

It’s a huge amount to pay a developing ruck who can’t play forward.

Especially given they already have a better one! bizzaro!

Given the general lack of any midfield at the Saints - perhaps spending said “war chest” on one player, could be spread a little more :).

That’s not SOS’s way though - he’s built an ego the size of Everest.

“Spreading it” isn’t really going to help us. We need “primo mids”, not more “b-grade” types, who don’t cost a bomb.

We have at least two very highly promising young mids in Phillipou and Garcia, who we need to keep getting games into, plus a rapidly improving Windhager, so the last thing we need to do is bring in any Worpel types, to take midfield time away from them.

Unless perhaps we’re offloading Steele.

And as you may have noticed, we’re not exactly destination no.1 for quality players who are looking to move, so it’s a lot easier said than done to put forward alternative suggestions. Especially that don’t cost trade capital, like TDK. They’re very rare.

We’re said to have made huge offers to Rowell and Callaghan though, and are also reportedly going hard for Harley Reid, so we can obviously fit in one of them AND Tom. And Aleer.

That would be the plan.

Which Free Agent midfielder should we be targeting this year ?.

Sainters out there how have you liked the look of TDK's awesome forward craft we've heard about from you all year despite us Baggers telling you it doesn't exist?

Given we've watched every game of his career you'd think we'd have a fairly good understanding of his strengths and weaknesses as a player...

Curnow didn't kick a goal for a month before last night. Must have no forward craft.
And TDK will be playing as a ruck if he joins St Kilda. We don't have someone is the ability of Pitonett to keep him out of the middle.

Curnow was still at least getting shots on goal.

And you don't have someone like Pittonet??? You've got Rohan Marshall lmao?????
