Yep I’m sure the brown paper bags and Visy ambassador jobs will work this time! It’s worked so well in the draft era so far!
Certainly better than the Sainters and whatever strategy they've been using since the beginning of time.

Offering TDK the biggest contract in AFL history and letting SOS carry out his personal vendetta against the Blues will work a treat im sure 😂

An exodus of two players... Huge stuff!

I know it must seem like a rather huge number given it's twice your clubs premiership tally over the last 100+ years but I'm sure we'll be fine 🙃
Hilarious that you’re trying to go down this path when Carlton has the WORST win % since the beginning of the century, bar Gold Coast.

The only time your club won premierships was when people looked the other way to the paper bag routine 😂

Another way to frame it. Carlton have “won” 20% of the wooden spoons in the past 25 years.

What's the Saints record against Carlton? Let's say... Dating back to the beginning of the competition?

My god, you have some serious made up PTSD about SoS.

Apparently, if you wear your Carlton jumper and say his name 3 times. He will pop up in a Carlton list manager meeting and pay your players exorbitant amounts and trade your picks for the next Mitch McGovern

When SOS (cos it's a one guy department) offered the same massive deal to players from other clubs prior to TDK was that a vendetta against Carlton?

I get that Carlton supporters need a vaudeville villan to distract from the obvious. Players want to leave Carlton.
And players are not looking to join Carlton.
Happy to be corrected on either point.

Up until 2002 we had a 18.3% win rate vs Carlton

Since 2002 we have had a 71.4% win rate versus Carlton

As opposed to the magnificent premiership strike rate of the aints. LOL
You guys cheated. It was premeditated, and systematic. Your board knew about it, your president knew about it, your coaches knew about it. They were fine with it, because they were happy to cheat if it meant winning.

They were found out, because they couldn't even cheat particularly well. Your poor excuse for a club has never recovered from this deliberate, systematic program of cheating, and since being found out, you have been the worst club in the AFL.

I would rather support a team that's only won one premiership, than a team that cheats.

Oh cry me a river

I’d suggest the majority do. But I don’t speak on behalf of all Carlton fans, and as I said, every fan base has some who hold wild opinions.
I think TDK is a solid player, and would have liked to keep him, but $1.7-$1.8m is way too much. He probably only just in top 10 ruckmen. Ranked 13 for hit outs, 8th for marks, 6th for clearances, 6th for disposals, 14th for tackles, 11th for goals. If the league allows ruckmen to run and jump at centre bounce he may improve hit outs, but that doesn't improve the rest of his game. He seems to start well in games and then fatigues as he isn't as strong as other ruckmen in wrestling duels. Not sure why St Kilda targetted him as better ranked young (under 30) ruckmen are Meek, Xerri, English, and Jackson. Carlton will be better served with high draft pick. St Kilda baffle me, wanted a big prize and seem to have valued him on early season form, but went so far down the path they couldn't back out. They have him, will be interesting to see if he can co-exist with Marshall, or whether they lose Marshall because of this move. Marshall is higher than TDK on every statistical category.

What about the eye test? How many times have you seen Marshall jump on someones head, or scoop the ball up and snap a goal from the pocket? Comparing players by stats, is very surface level analysis. He is overpaid to pry him from the club he loved playing at, and he will benefit from potential ruck contest changes, and hopefully a niggle-free pre-season.

I watch every Carlton game and as I said he is solid. He does some eye catching things, but also frustrates me with the way he fatigues, gets out bodied at both ruck contests and marking contests. Pittonet wins 40% of his Hit outs with 34% to advantage and TDK wins 37% of hit outs with 30% to advantage. Marshall wins 35% with 25% to advantage. We will see how he goes, but I don't understand with those dollars why STK didn't target a Xerri, Meek, Jackson, or English.

TDK is the only one who was a free agent, so they just needed to put a pile of cash in front of him, for him to decide to leave. The others are all contracted. In terms of free agents - O'Brien wasn't going to leave and Saints had a swing at Draper when he was recovering from his ACL, and no doubt still had somewhat of an interest, but they have also been huge on TDK for the past couple years. They tried to get him when he was last OOC, but his manager smartly said to sign until free agency. Fremantle are leading the way by having 2 legitimate rucks playing in the same match, and similarly to D'Arcy, TDK will go hard for 5-10 mins, then swap out. The money is coming from huge savings over the past 4 years, so would expect that his first few years would be front loaded.

I don't blame STK for having a crack and I genuinely want TDK to do well. I just don't get making TDK the second best paid player in the league despite only just being a top ten ruck. I see how they have made savings, but they can still only pay the salary cap each year and NAS and TDK will take up $3.7m of a $18.2m salary cap. If they get all the other players they will pay overs to, they will have issues retaining players in future. I guess when you are a mid ranking team you have to make big moves.

Comparing him to other rucks' salary doesn't matter as much, because they didn't have to draft and develop him, or trade for him. His salary is the fee to bring him over for pure salary cost, which they have accounted for. Hopefully that helps you rationalise the move. That is at least how I understand and deal with it :D

We are trying to get better and we have banked salary cap to spend that we would lose anyway. TDK is getting a fantastic payday but at the end of the day he is going to make us better and we have the money.

The important thing for us right now is to improve, we've been to the draft for multiple years and have what we think is a good core of kids, and now we are making our move. The figure of those two players taking 3.7m of the cap, that is pretty much all made up of what we have banked, so we have the room.

St Kilda cant even succeed when they do cheat so AFL couldn't be stuffed prosecuting them...
St Kilda1996$30,000 fine
St Kilda2005$40,000 fine
St Kilda2006$40,000 fine for late lodgement of documents
St Kilda2008$10,000 fine
