Kinda funny looking back at the outrage when we took him 30 picks higher than he was projected. Unbelievably good pick.
To be fair there was only 1 poster who went completely troppo... purely because he had not heard if Doedee, so incorrectly assumed he can't be any good.

There were still quite a few that didn't like it and most used this sort of reasoning. No one went to the lengths that he did though.

I wonder if these people will learn?

Problem is that said poster hasn't let it go even given Tom's form since debut.

I'm pretty sure I was like "Doedee... who the **** is that?". However, as our recruiting department is one that I've been very happy with and have faith in, I was willing to give Ogilve the benefit of the doubt. Again, he has proven he knows what he's doing. The seamless transition Doedee has made into the AFL has been incredibly impressive. That he was BOG for us when we were getting belted all over the ground by Richmond at the G speaks volumes about his ability to stand up under pressure. I get the feeling that Doedee will be one who relishes the challenge of the high pressure atmosphere of finals. Unfortunately it's very unlikely that we'll find that out this year*.

*Thanks fitness department, unlike our recruiting department, you guys can GAGF.

He's gathering a bit of momentum for the rising star. Lloyd and Judd pointed out though how silly it is to compare players who've had three preseasons vs players who've had one. Think that will count against him in the wash up. He'll get in everyone's top three IMO but no max. votes.

Would we have won the flag if we'd picked him last year? Hmmmm difficult to tell... but definitely yes

Also another perfect example of why people need to take SANFL form and numbers with a pinch of salt. Reserve league numbers do not determine what career said player will have at the top level.

We have seen countless players now when coming into an A grade side, lift with the level and intensity of the game and prove that they have something to offer. We've managed to blood Doedee and completely transform Milera, I' m hoping that if finals are not possible, then we might just see a couple of other new faces too, such as Himmelberg.

If there was a re run of the 2015 draft Doedee wouldn’t be pick 17 again

Def top 5.

1. Clayton Oliver
2. Charlie Curnow
3. Callum Mills
4. Eric Hipwood
5. Tom Doedee?

Few others would be around the mark too

The first two pages after it was announced he was drafted is probably my favourite moment on bigfooty.

It was a pick that was Hamish showing off why he is the best, and boy hasn't he nailed it.

I wouldn’t swap Doedee for Burton in a million trillion years that much is certain

He wouldn't be much use to us after about fifteen years, so the rest is hyperbole

Playing in a team full of players who are at the elite level can make a huge difference. Those who belong in the AFL stand out like dogs bollocks in the state leagues when you watch them closely and you can see them trying to create plays that the average state (or top up) player isn't good enough to complete. When they're in the AFL side, that quick flash of a handball that resulted in a fumble and turnover in the SANFL can result in a player out in space kicking it down the field to eventually end up as a goal in the AFL.

Spot on and that's why I love going to the SANFL games. To see the development of our younger players and I think seeing the top-ups give their all as well knowing that they have had a lot less opportunities to excel than the players they are playing with and against. People get so hung up on winning and forget that this is a development side with a lot of things stacked against the team.

The value of Doedee’s post career brand will be higher than Burtons

I was never really a fan of Burton anyway.

Whereas, we're going to have to erect a statue for this Doedee kid, but probably not until he's our fourth premiership coach.

That would make marty36 happy as that would have meant we were more likely to take Burton...

The collarbone is probably a good result. His shoulder stays in tact, he can now rest up and reflect on a successful season. He can then turn his attention to taking the next step towards All-Australian selection. Will be a beast by the time next season starts.
