5 weeks is joke, when the bloke gets up straight away.

if the AFL for all incidents judged the amount of weeks by the action and not end result in injury, I would say fair enough, but they don’t.

Anyone who likes a system where players get more weeks for either the outcome or the action but never less weeks either. Anyway doesn’t matter for Richmond this year really but everyone cheering more weeks team will probably cop a bullshit tribunal decision when matters most
The AFL is wildly inconsistent, that much is true. But you can’t get too upset when the right decisions gets reached. What’s the alternative? Get mad when the AFL makes the wrong decision, but also when they make the right one? Makes no sense.

Personally I’d be all for the suspension guidelines to be updated and split into football actions vs non-football actions with the latter receiving higher penalties. And I mean for everything, the stupid jumper punches, the tummy taps, all the unsportsmanlike crap.

So it's all good to go around throwing haymakers as long as they miss?
i'm sure they'd hold a consistent perspective if it was lynch who got punched in the back of the head don't worry.

If it’s proper roundhouse swing he would of knocked him out, it was more of an aggressive swat cause he was getting held.
It was a proper roundhouse swing... he's just so washed that he missed

For those bleating on about the impact - this is straight from the Tribunal guidelines.

Potential to cause injury is considered when determining impact, particularly in the case of a swinging clenched fist.

He's lucky to only get 5.

This is just another example of why the grading system needs to be scrapped.

Servere Impact was bullshit and actually allowed for a genuine argument for the downgrade. Butts felt the contact and took a dive to get the free, that's fine, everyone does it. But to grade that as Servere Impact is stupid!

Could see this going through to the courts!

Judge each incident on its own accord...

Nothing to do with the sentence, just my rant about the system!

It’s possible to just be crap at punching. Swung his arm from the hip, made contact with the back of his head. Extremely lucky with 5 weeks. If Butts had been another defender susceptible to concussion symptoms eg. McGovern or Starcevich, then this could’ve been 10-12 weeks.

Tiger supporters complaining about 5 weeks for “a swat” 🤣. Lynch has got away unpunished for some dog acts in the past.

As far as I’m concerned the tribunal is playing catch up for those previous indiscretions, and 5 weeks is very reasonable. He’s probably still way ahead for all the scummy incidents he’s got away with in the past.

No he should get a suspension but not 5 weeks when you don’t get them. You can’t just make up potential to cause injury because every reportable incident has potential to cause more injury.
Harley got 2 weeks for a tackle that caused no injury but had potential to do so.
Stop your whining, Mad Dog Lynch has to wear it.

Whats infinitely more possible, is he wasn't swing to knock Butts out and done as much damage as he set out to!

Tom Lynch saying he was just trying to get separation from Butts is a pathetic defense.

I can understand admitting that frustrations got the best of him and he lashed out with an open handed strike but saying he was just trying to break free is piss weak.
Disagree. Butts had hold of him illegally at the time and Lynch's action looked like a chop to me. If the umpires were doing their job it wouldn't have come to this.

Its just a chop.

It wasn’t a chop. It was a strike to the head.

This is the precise attitude we need out of the game and society.

Butts was just doing his job as a defender, and whether or not Lynch was being held is not relevant.

If the strike landed properly, Butts would have been concussed and there would potentially be other severe injuries. Are you suggesting Lynch’s frustration justifies Butts suffering a brain injury?

It is no one’s fault but Lynch’s, he should stop acting like a petulant child and control his emotions.

I was expecting 4-5 at least for this incident and it's appropriate IMO.

Simply can't have a bloke taking a swing at another's head like that. Outcome aside, the intent was there, and it needs to be treated severely. Lynch has made a goose of himself and let the club down.

Stewart ended meat ball's career.
In hindsight, probably should have been a bit more than 4 weeks.

I think it should have been 5-6 personally. Looked intentional to me.

New rules every year though.
