Good on him, wonder what field in medicine he will be studying? He played at AFL level, not many can say that :thumbsu:

On SEN now they are saying that during this year, Mrs Embley tweeted saying that Swift was plays below par, or something along those lines. Has anybody else heard that?
I don't blame her for focussing on someone else, when Embley played this year I also had to look away.

But seriously, West Coast are being typified perfectly. You hated him. You booed him when he played for your club, and you booed him when you should've been relaxing at the WAFL grandy. Then as soon as the media starts hyping him up ("promising young player" they call him in the article, when he wasn't), you jump aboard.

The guy is extremely lucky. He fulfilled a dream and played AFL footy. And now he's got the brains and opportunity to have an occupation in a rewarding, high paying profession. Nobody should ever feel sorry for him.

People didn't like Swift because they thought he didn't, care because he was one touch player who didn't do the obvious things that crowds love. Leaving probably won't redeem his image in the eyes of those that actually didn't like him.

No doubt some people will cry crocodile tears for a pick wasted.

Polar opposites to the likes of a player like deBoar, an average player like Swift but at least Fremantle supporters know he puts in 110% on the field. Swift will make a brilliant doctor, he's clinical in his preparation and trains harder than anyone at the club and he was full of little moves.

Perhaps he didn't have the temperament for AFL football. I agree with the last point and he probably knows it.

if i had a choice between becoming a doctor or be an AFL player i would probably want to be a doctor aswell. but i wouldve waited a few years to see if i was any good at the AFL. u can always become a doctor post your AFL career

With WC still offering him a one year deal you would think his retirement is because of the pressure placed upon him by fans. Why else would you walk away from the AFL at such a young age?

He even got jeered in the WAFL grand final. Gotta feel for the bloke.

should have taken a page out of Matthew Liptak's book.

Your leavers score is only valid for 5 years, i'm thinking he probably thought he might as well go now, next year he couldn't.

Ok, I barely know anything about Facebook, but obviously that's a fake page. Can people be punished for posting a fraudulent and defamatory FB page in somebody else's name?
what do you mean a fake page?
some nobody created the page to make cheap jokes about the kid

don't understand why he didn't wait until his AFL career was over before moving to medicine

'Cause it's 5 years of undergraduate study, then a good 2 or 3 years of essentially being an apprentice. And then, if you want to specialise, another 5 or more years of study after that.

He'll make good coin playing in the WAFL while he studies.

Was very impressive in his first few seasons but his form really faded the last few years. The best decision for himself, his club and the human race :thumbsu:

Good on him and best of luck to Swift on his new career. Hope they make him cut his hair though that shit is just ridiculous :p

strange build for an AFL player, was okay in the WAFL final and wasnt really that good, the sceptic in me says OUT Swift IN Wellingham need some salary cap dollars.

Good choice from the lad... I really wonder whether the fans and footy world's negative response to him had an impact.

Undoubtedly. There's only so much crap a person can take before they throw in the towel.

I've never understood the "fans" who boo their own players. It's just not on. Has it not occurred to them that his performance, or lack thereof, has a direct correlation to how much crap he gets from some Eagles "fans"? Has it ever occurred to them that this sort of bullying contributes to a person's mental state?

I'm not surprised he gave the game away. He could've done more if he wasn't jeered every time he got near the ball.
