This was the Big Debate the last few weeks of last years Draft.

Swift was the kid who Killed it at u-16 Level and Even Voss said he was the best U-16 Player he ever seen but he missed 2 Seasons with Injuries but he had massive hype because of the U-16 Champs and he was good here when he cam with the AIS.

Sidebottom was the kid that was built up all year as the player on the Boards we would get Very Happy . He was the Insid Mid with Class we have needed for awhile, Then he had the Massive GF. Those it was intersting after the Draft Camp people where getting off him and wanted Swift more because of Pace.

Now Mid Year......

Swift went pick 20 to the eagles and he has played 4 games but He has not done as well as I thought he would. He been playing on the Wing and getting Possesions. Has not shown me anyway what the Hype was about Pre-Draft

We took Steele at Pick 11 and played 6 games and showed why we drafted him playing just about everywhere he can. Showed great skills, toughness,Good Game Speed, His Tank and His love of the game

At Years End....

Swift Showed some Real Promise and Looks to be a Good Get

Sidebottom got to the next level after his SF game against the Crows and Looks to be a Star

I think we made the Right Choice

not sure what you expected of swift mid year to be honest.

talking about a guy who missed 2 years of footy, debuted in the WAFL seniors this year and after half a dozen WAFL games he made his AFL debut.

once he settled, he was just about our best player in the last 6 rounds for us.

both are young guns. sidebottom really killed it in the adelaide final.

it's pretty understandable that the pies wouldnt take a risk on an interstate guy with two knee recos. west coast already had 2 picks before our no.20, so it was worth taking a punt on him.

That was the Beauty of you guys have the Priority Pick there at 20 where you already had Natanui and Shuey? and you could take a Risk on Swift who had big time potential

I'll reserve judgement untill Swift has a BOG;)

Steele was a good get. Both Teams will be happy

You can't really judge anything yet DTM/TD.

Actually considering Swifts injury history I think you have to say 4 games of senior footy is a damn good return. WC are pretty good at producing good mids and I think Swift will end up a good player if his injuries stay away.

That said i'm happy with Sidebottom. Showed some great signs during the year and pretty confident we've got a player, just depends how good.

I think this one is the definition of a win win for both clubs - so far anyway.

Frankly I don't buy into the hype of "He's a future gun!!" that seems to surround every young player who has one good game, but I think Sidebottom was a good pick. He was very good during the Adelaide game, no denying it, but it's only one really good game so far, I don't think you can take too much away from it except that he has no problem in pressure situations. If he plays to that standard next year then I will be a very happy pies supporter for sure.

As for Swift, with the injuries we really couldn't take the gamble, West Coast could, and it seems like it's paying off for them. I don't wish we took Swift instead though.

thats it.

using our third overall selection is a lot less risky than you guys taking him with your first overall and only first rounder.

shuey was more of a sure thing (although he was injured all last year) as he had a solid carnival (B+F) and was a consistent player prior to being drafted.

All you could say is that on 1st year form, both are still outstanding prospects.

Both took a while to warm up, but when they did they both looked fantastic. Swift's last couple of games were superb.

Sidebottom is better by footy, Swift seems extremely creative by hand though.

Both look like they're going to be good players at least, both have potential to be A graders. Happy to stick with Steele, so classy... that BOG in the semi was something special.

Some of Steele's handballs in the SF were outstanding. That one in the goal square was unreal, and the looping one to Thomas on the HBF where he had someone on his heals but didn't have to break stride... perfection.

The game was in the Finals and how many Teens you see doing that? and if he can do it in the Finals he can do it in the Home and Away Season

I agree it's to Early to Fully Tell but I agree after 1 season you could say both Teams have future A-Graders

I'll admit I was on the Tommy Swift bandwagon.

However, the emergence of Rusty has been sensational.

His BOG in the SF vs the Crows was outstanding.

Superb skills on both sides, creative by hand and evasive skills that were pure class.

Still early but Rusty is going to be a superstar.

I'm absolutely rapt with Sidebum :D He can kick on both feet, is a nice handballer and evasive like Pendles :) just wait until next year after he has a pre season. He will be a superstar and I think he could eventually be in the top 10 players in the league. Cannot wait until I see him play next year we got a ripper :D

tbh i though swifts first handful of games were terrible. the amount of times he stuffed it up became comical. i couldn't believe it. but he started to ease into it a bit more at the end and started to get a tonne of the ball. looks like a good prospect.

Both these guys were my two favourite prospects pre-draft. Love them both.

I think Swift has the higher ceiling of the two personally. Both are intelligent players, which is what makes them so good.

I was hoping we'd manage to get both somehow :( But to get just one was brilliant for us I guess.

I still think Swift has a Bigger Ceiling then Steele but I that Means Swift has more chances of Not Reaching his Potential where Steele does not to do as much

There is something special about Swift in that he could become the best player in the league down the track, but he's one knee injury away from taking a big step backwards.

Swift = big risk, big reward.

Everyone knows that, so from our POV fingers crossed.

Sidebottom was the right pick for you guys no matter what.

Agreed, Swift was High Risk - High Reward. Could be a Top 10 Player in the Comp or gone in a few seasons

I'd take Steele, even at this very early stage, as Swift seems to be more of an outside mid, as Steele seems a real tough in and under mid in the making.

I wouldn't swap Steele for anyone in last years draft at the moment, although I'd admit Daniel Rich's first year was outstanding.

Steele can kick both feet with no real preference, has a vision for the game that is very rare in "kids", and has that clearance ability we so desperately need.

Oh yeah, and he performed in a final, well he over performed, if you want to be accurate.

Both will be "good" players guaranteed, it's only a matter of how good.:)

Swift is not an outside mid, have a look at his tackle count and clearances in his last two games.

He is genuine inside mid with some serious pace to use the ball outside too.

His kicking has no penetration at the moment due to being out of the game for so long but a pre-season under his belt and this will improve. Can kick both sides of his body and vision/evasion is first class.

Nobody at the Eagles excites me more but everytime he falls over or gets tackled I hold my breath...

Remember someone said the samething before the Draft Last Year
