I like Hrovat and think he's a decent player, and will be very solid in the future, but if St Kilda / Melbourne offered us their first rounder in exchange for our first and Hrovat I would bite their hand off. Hrovat is nothing that we don't already have, or can't get in the future with a late first rounder / early second rounder. We're so much closer to our needed KPD with pick 5 than pick 11.

Then trade pick 5 and Grant to Brisbane for pick 2.

Hello Weitering!

P.S. Have I just shown that I really have no idea how much a players value is actually worth in a trade scenario? :D
Um.... I don't think we'll get that done....

I agree with every thing you said bar the 2nd round pick upgrade. Absolutely no way would I be taking that.

Effectively that would be like Hrovats worth is in the 50's (according the the AFL draft index)
Dees and saints finished a little higher than I thought, but it depends on Dalrymple and Jmac to a large extent. The draft index is just numbers - maybe dalrymple has his heart set on a player but cant justify that player at 11, but thinks he is some chance at 25, but no chance at 31. Or maybe a pick inside 30 is what is required for Jmac to nail a trade?

We arent going to get an extra 2nd rounder for him. Perhaps a swap of both 2nd and 3rds?

I'd probably let him go for a 2nd. Then trade our two 2nds with gws for either the pies or their first pick (if it gives then more academy bidding points they'd be up for it)

I like your lateral thinking. If the Suns are committed to spending their 1st rounder on Points rather than a player, then it does just become all about the points doesnt it?

So our 1st rounder plus our 2nd rounder for Suns 1st rounder could be an option.

This is an example of where upgrading our 2nd rounder from 31 to 25 could swing the deal - you just never know if its just about points.

EDIT: oh - pick 3 is worth 2234 while pick 11+pick 24 is only worth 2114

As always it comes down to how St.Kilda & Melbourne see the draft- but I could see them both considering a first round downgrade to get Hrovat.

For what it's worth the AFL points system considers the difference between our first rounder & Melbournes to be pick 40 & St.Kildas pick 34 which Hrovat is easily worth. Obviously that system is indicative & probably a little flawed in valuing high picks.

Thanks, not sure why the saints would have interest in another small forward/midfielder they seem to have more than we do?

Would anyone consider Toumpas for Hrovat?
I don't think I'd let Toumpas clean Hrovats boots.

Firstly the kid is a pure mid who can spend 10 - 20% gametime in the forward line. There midfield depth isn't great. Steven, Montagna and Armitage. Those are the only names that are consistent performers in the saints lineup.

They need more midfield depth. Hrovat fit and firing is easily best 22 at both clubs IMO. Thats why there is speculation.

Absolutely not to toumpas in a straight swap. Would want an exchange of second rounders in addition if that were to happen.

Hrovat will play 22 games for us next year. Very much part of our future.
Yeah....nah

Just let us know who he gets in ahead of, as at present I've got about 30 players ahead of him.

Do a deal, 2nd rd pick upgrade and 3rd rounder best we could hope for if something happens IMO.

But Hrovat is contracted and apparently doesn't want to go.

IMO likely outcome is we retain him and Hrovat continues to not deliver and gets pushed into the bottom 5 on our list next year and we lose him for SFA. Of course it won't be that anyone is wrong on Hrovat's potential, he'll just have been cruelled by injury or played out of position by our MC....

Trade him now while some value is there IMO.

He takes Daniel's role in a team making a serious push.

I fear the competition for spots will be intensified even more next year and some of our younger players already show more poise and better skill execution under pressure than him. He really should have destroyed the VFL this year and whilst he played well at times he just didn't show the class that many think he has...

I'll be more than happy if he stays and has a good run at a full pre-season because he's well loved in the group and has a good footy head..
