Hurley's 2 years younger, and better imo. He'll play 2017 as a 26 year old. Perfect.

And no stress over the year off. I think that's all overblown a bit. The man knows how to play footy. He won't forget. And no doubt he'll keep himself in good nick.

No issue paying $900k to an all Australia CHB in his absolute prime with a rising cap. Play on.
Imagine the melts. Boyd on a mil and Hurls just shy of a mil. Alongside Bont and Stringer. Cue cap investigation.

The era of million dollar KPDs ey?

With the way footys going would you rather a team with an average KPF and a gun tall defender or an average tall defender and a gun forward? It really seems like the guard is changing tbh, even while the games getting more attacking overall.

If theres one player in the league I want right now itd be Hurley.

On the Cordy/Adams argument its just too early but both are extremely promising. If theres one thing thats impressed me with the Cordy, Hamling, Adams, Collins bunch, its just their intensity, they never hit a contest at less than 100%. You can just tell they hate being ******* beaten. and while I rate the attributes that the likes of Roberts and Roughy as a defender brang you just couldnt say the same about them and at the end of the day thats what makes a good key defender (unless theyre really really talented then they can get away with it)

I will not believe Cordy is 192cm either, every time I see him play he looks huge. Lanky yeah but i doubt he's under 195ish. Looks like he will fill out top. I see no reason he cant be a genuine CHB. With the way the games going I dont necessarily think a line up of Hamling, Cordy, Adams and Wood would be overly bad. But in saying that i do like the idea of Collins developing into that FB to build the defence around.

Definite IMO. Kid's going to be very good.
Agreed. Fast, agile, angry and determined. Not afraid to hit the body of an opponent and make them earn it and that's when he weights about 70 kg..... Very high hopes for him....

The incident on the weekend when he tried to go over his opponent to reach the ball is a great example - straight line focus on the ball and the next contest....

I guess it's a question of value rather than whether we can afford him.
For sure. Given the choice between Ess and Dogs, one would think success could be used to try and entice him for less. Reports are he'll stay, whether that is a strong stance or something that could be changed is what will interest me. Crameri should get in his ear.

With our zone defense rather than man to man, sizes of players in that zone can be smaller, if they are all quick. There is however a great way of exploiting a zone, that we have already seen in action.
Take a tall resting Ruckman/super tall KPF. These guys can out reach the standard zone defender. This creates issues, do you then abandon the zone? The other team can continually kick high into the zone to target these taller KPF.
Solution:
Have 4 tall intercepting defenders that are 193cm+ who are mobile and can jump. Eg. Cordy, Collins, Hamling & Adams. You might need to only play 3 but at least we are ready.
Could be accommodate a hooker/Hurley, absolutely. Never turn down quality KPP, particularly when we need a CHF.

We can, without doubt. Don't know if we are though.
One would think that if there was enough interest from both parties, it's a foregone conclusion and a deal will get done. It's whether there is enough interest. I'm sure we'll start seeing clubs back-ending contracts due to the rise in the cap over the next few years.

Curious on thoughts of yours truly regarding Colyer. Leg speed is one of our weaknesses and he seems to have it. Can spud it up with disposal but could be an asset if he plays within his means. Also adds a different dimension, not just can we move the ball by foot quickly but he'd compliment JJ's run off half back.

I'm not sure that this is actually that effective. There are very few super-tall players who are competent forwards (luckily for us, we have one coming through). Yes, those talls may take a lot of contested marks and look really good and kick their 3 or 4 goals, but a quick backline can usually exploit an oversized forward line. The north game is the one that sticks in my mind- Petrie and Waite were tearing us apart, and I think we had Biggs playing tall for most of the game, but we were cutting them up with our rebounding.

Before that game, I used to cringe every time I saw a player like Wood or Biggs playing on a resting ruckman. Now, I'm very happy to see it- the ruckman is usually an incompetent forward, so he does very little damage, while our skillful rebounder wreaks havoc going the other way and by zoning off to intercept in front of the good forwards.

We're inundated with short guys. Not for me.

He could really take over from Morris, with his versatility. Better overhead too. (Yet to be seen if he'll be as dour and effective)
Maybe not as close checking, but we don't want a 100% like for like replacement as players retire anyway - Morris is excellent one on one but we're developing zone-based players now. Luckily Morris is disciplined enough to play his role but Adams has yet to show he can stay in his spot at AFL level. Looks promising, kick is a worry, but there is a new breed of tall/big midfielders who rest forward and Adams seems the type that can take them or chop out on taller guys if required. Not sure I'd want him to play a legitimate KPP spot but he's improved a hell of a lot since he was drafted.
