Just IMO reckon if fit, English will be our best ruck at the start of next season.

Not sure how we fit all our other rucks in. Can't see how recruiting another primary ruck is a need - particularly with Trengoves decent ruck form.

Trengrove and English are the starting ruck combination for me in 2019.

English is going to overtake Boyd in the forward/ruck position. Athleticism and his marking are better than Boyd.

Schache was a Hail Mary desperate late call to cover up the Stringer debacle.

Griff and Higgins wanted out, Cooney was done and Jake was pushed out.

Sorry mate we can pretend we controlled all of what you say but we really didn’t.

Dahl leaves, Wally possibly leaves and we will do very little if history is a reliable source

We were chasing Schache for a while. Everybody said it was an act of desperation and stupidity to do it- so you have to give some credit there.

And they also got Gowers over a lot of objections and made the right call with Crameri. So yes, it wasn't perfect but the list team did pretty well IMO.

That would have involved giving up our first round pick most likely - Tim English.

English will be a superstar, he'll join Grundy & Gawn.
Good point.

All this talk about landing a big fish after 2016 is so naive.

It takes months to negotiate contracts as we see every year, with Dusty, Scully etc.

Players, managers etc are not going to change their career path, contact negotiations and choice of club all of a sudden and go to the Bulldogs because they won the premiership.

In fact players still under contract with other clubs are less likely to be traded to the club that has just won the flag.

Can someone please name a player since the end of 16 that we could have or should have acquired that would have seen us in contention in 17 and 18 ?

I think the drafting since the 16 premiership has been great.

Unless injury intervenes or there is massive change in form, hard to disagree.

Trengove isn't playing back as I see Naughton and Cordy as our KPDs with comp from Adams in the rare event he is fit. And can't see Schache being displaced fwd.

So that just leaves a ruck and ruck/fwd spot for three players.

Be interesting to see what happens.

Did anyone else watch “the wash up” on the afl website/app..... haha I can’t help but laugh how damian barrett just gets off kicking us when we are down!
You just made me watch it....bastard!

To be honest Lloyd laid the boot in harder than Barrett. There sweeping statements like we have lost our ‘identity’ and have become ‘irrelevant’ is just lazy journalism.

They then go on to say that our last 4 games saved our season, we have good youth and we would push for finals next year. No proper analysis in their ‘wash-up’ just contradictory dribble.

Best 18:

Round 1, 2019:

B: Morris Wood Adams
HB: JJ Naughton Richards
C: Hunter Macrae Daniel
HF: McLean Boyd Williams
FF: Gowers Schache Picken
Foll: English Bont Libba
Bench: Wallis Suckling Cordy Dunkley

Miss out: Crozier, Lynch, Roarke, Jong, Greene, Dale, Lipinski, Trengove, Young

IMO the weak points of that team is age and experience - I genuinely think that’s a premiership team. Schache is young, Boyd (hopefully) continues to develop and English hopefully puts some weight on.

Add to this a top 6-8 draft pick and I’m understandably bullish about our chances of dominating again in 2 years.

No room for this year’s leading goal kicker?

Are the rules changing to 19 on the field in 2019?

If Corey Gregson gets squeezed out at Geelong would we be interested?
Thought he was a pretty handy player but don't know what his form has been like this year.
3 goals in 10 games and under 10 touches a game. Had a nasty long term injury last year IIRC.

I hate the whole 'irrelevant' garbage. What the f*** does it actually mean anyway?

I would've thought they had learned their lesson after smashing us in 2014. Every year there's another irrelevant side. You're right, it's lazy stuff from window lickers aimed at window lickers.

Had we chosen not to offer a 2018 contract extension to Tom Campbell, we would have had the capacity to take another rookie instead.
Which would have given us the capacity to take whichever candidate Dalrymple wanted, probably in addition to the Gowers selection.

Instead, we kept a ruckman that the match committee refused to select and lost our recruiter.

There are many parties at fault here, but Jason McCartney's decision to offer a 2018 contract to Tom Campbell has given us nothing and cost us quite a bit.

Haha sorry mate! I just got a laugh at what was said.We are going to take some big steps next year and make a few people second guess them selves about the opinion they have on the dogs.

How about playing Tom Campbell, most rucks lack mobility. Our best average hit outs this year was Tom Boyd with 17.00 per game.

Just goes to show that with a full list we have a very strong team - a hard team to pick and as you said, a potential Premiership line up.

It may be a good looking team but there are far too many injury prone players for it to be remotely viable or realistic.

For intance the full back line of Wood, Adams and Moz has missed more than played recently. Boyd has 23 out of 44. Suckling, Picken and Libba barely played this yr. Libba has had major injuries in three of the last four yrs. Suckling a chronic achilles. Picken a head knock away from retirement. English and Williams coming off bone stress injuries that are known to recur.

The last three years says with this list and medical team, injuries are the norm and need to be assumed as certainties. Unless of course we can turn over a good portion of the china dolls on our list.

And once we do lose a lot of the candidates out of that best 25 or 26, the apparent lack of willingness to pay guys like Wallis and Dahlhaus means the drop off to the reserves is a massive cliff, and we're getting slaughtered by 50 or 60 points with regularity again.

I don't think Crozier is in Bevo's "miss out" column.

If adams is healthy sure, but he's never healthy.

Brisbane are reportedly going hard after Lachie Neale. It might mean they have given up on Wallis and he is staying?
