You'd hope that we're pointing to our history of Footscray VFL players getting drafted as a positive.

I don’t know why we don’t have Stevo down each year, and then have him write an article that highlights a list gap that we have that could be filled through Footscray.

Surely we’d then get a stack of interest from players in those roles to play with Footscray.

Each year we just change what position we need and repeat the article

Yeah, you'd assume that there'd be at least one or two key defenders that missed getting drafted or are trying to get back onto a list who would be interested since we're probably still one key defender short.

One of the mysteries of the drafts this year was how Ethan Phillips was overlooked. Clearly the best key defender in the VFL, winner of the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal for best young player in the VFL. Great size and excellent intercept mark. Ranked No 20 in the ESPN rankings prior to the National Draft. Surely must have been worth at least a rookie chance. No takers, very strange!

One of the mysteries of the drafts this year was how Ethan Phillips was overlooked. Clearly the best key defender in the VFL, winner of the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal for best young player in the VFL. Great size and excellent intercept mark. Ranked No 20 in the ESPN rankings prior to the National Draft. Surely must have been worth at least a rookie chance. No takers, very strange!

Very unusual, we haven't even heard a peep of him training with a club. I'm sure that some club will take him midseason and slap themselves on the back over it.

Not too fussed. As long as our systems are in order, I reckon our tall defender options of Gardner, Jones, Keath, Bruce, Darcy, Khamis, O'Brien, Busslinger, Cleary and Raak should be more than sufficient.

If we haven't got our systems in order, an 11th option ain't gonna help much

I especially like the spine of Bruce, O'Brien, Raak and Khamis, all of whom have a good capability of playing forward or back.

Bring on 2023.

Agree, however I was referring to the fact he wasn't even selected in the Footscray team above....did we delist him or did he go pack up his toys and go elsewhere cos he didn't get drafted

Nothing to say he's gone elsewhere, the Footscray team listed is just an AFL seconds team if everyone AFL listed was fit to play. Sullivan would be the first non-AFL-listed player in our VFL side.

Myself and the other person were only doing AFL listed players, at least that's what I was doing. Wasn't looking at VFL at all.

What has happened to Van de Houven. I say him play a game a year ago where he must have got over 15 marks and was killing it. Then in and out of the side. Hopefully he is still playing for Footscray?

I was really hoping we would draft him, already has a mature body with an impressive resume in the VFL.

I wonder what his plans are for 2023. Surely it makes sense to move to an AFL aligned team.
