No, this is the Ross Lyon method of list building, bring in older players who aren't required at their current teams, stunt the development of your younger players, and end up with the mess that is Fremantles current situation (and St Kildas previously). It's short sighted, might help us win a an extra game or two next year (might), but isn't going to push us over the top into a contender. It's the kind of move the eternal middle of the road teams like Richmond make.Which of those players will be an automatic starting forward pocket next season?
That line of thinking is flawed. Not only is it a fact that Harvey is a better forward then the two you mention but he is also a much better midfielder.
If Butler retires then Nelson is an automatic replacement. Partington is in direct competition with the midfield group and on the basis of this season where he has not played any senior games it is fair to assume he may not be ready next season also.
It is about list quality and thus competition breeds success.
