Can't believe WCE would let him go for a pick they probably wouldn't use. I'm another thinking this is a nothing to lose trade.

Mr. Reliable posed the question on his height and whether he would be too small at 185cm.
Ben plays a lot taller than 185cm and the bonus is he has very good smarts/forward awareness. Somewhat of a presence in the forward line, good on the lead and can use his body. Could ideally put on a bit more muscle but the key with Ben is his work on his agility and ball winning at ground level along with his defensive pressure.
Ever since he was a junior at Yarrambat, he has had a very good work-rate and discipline enabling him to get the best out of himself. He has done well at West Coast, by no means been poor. With his studies nearly over, and a fresh start back in Melbourne he is definitely worth a second chance or look at pick #69.
Do not underestimate the importance of having competition for spots in our forward line and the importance of a mid-size player who can play taller than he actually is. I've always been told Essendon and Carlton were front-runners over North, but I'm glad we're making a play for him. Worth a shot IMO.

Are we still the front runners said on foxs sports Dogs are keen
The good thing is we have our picks before them. they have given 40 for Libba Jr. so worst case scenario for us is pick 51.
He also nominated North or Bulldogs as his preferred destination.
i would be happy to give our 2nd rounder for him, given we get melbournes 2nd rounder in the hale trade, or even our 2nd rounder if we somehow snare another first round pick.
he definitely has a lot of talent.
was out of favour with the coach and had limited opportunites.
would provide good comp for azz and benny but also, if one of goldy or mac go down, petrie can pinch hit in the ruck and mckinley is capable of playing full forward.
as i said before, 69 would be an absolute steal!!!
in terms of the dogs being keen, that's not surprising, between the bulldogs and the blues, they are keen on everyone! so sick of hearing about them!!

Rich man's Aaron Edwards for mine.
He might very well kick a heap of goals at another club but people will soon realise that just like Edwards, Paul Medhurst, Mark Williams and Mitch Morton - he's simply not big or versatile enough to be a genuine focal point and he doesn't have enough strings to his bow to be anything but
Because he can't play in that structure. He's poor defensively, poor below his knees, is not a high possession winner and gets in the way of key forwards.
He is shorter than many midfielders but has poor pace, average recovery at ground level and his best skills are "mark and kick" full forward type. And the kicking has been shizen this year.
He is an undersized tall forward who no doubt has natural goal sense but not the skill set to play as a medium forward
He kicked 42 goals in his first proper season, with a terrible midfield and little opportunity.
Has developed his work rate and defensive side, but has been the victim of poor coaching and lack of consistent opportunity as much as his own deficiencies.
In the right side could easily develop into a 45-50+ goal forward.
A solid contributor without being a star. Has a good mark and great opportunistic goal sense
It's a shame to see him go IMO. He's just a fraction too easy to spoil on the lead, due to a lack of pace and height. I hope he does well at another club.

From WC board, make of it what you will...
These are all to familiar comments, let's not get too excited.
source???

Ease up!! 2nd round is a bit rich. You could put togther a highlights reel for just about anyone and they'd look good.

By no means next to nothing Groggy. Certainly his defensive pressure can marketdly improve and a weakness of his for quite a while has been his agility.
Really needs to work hard in that area just to add another dimension to his game.
