Carrazzo isn't a list clogger who would necessarily lose his spot to O'Keeffe. If we want someone to play reserves and show leadership, then we'll keep Carrazzo. We're not Melbourne who needed Cross to come in and add some steel to a young list. Don't want to use a senior spot on O'Keeffe who could be cooked. Unsure that he's going to come back and play like Chapman.

We will have enough over-the-hill types on our list if Judd, Carrazzo, Waite and McLean are all running around another year.

O'Keefe adds nothing more to the playing group than Heath Scotland did in staggering to 4 AFL games. :(

O'Keefe will be handsomely remunerated as an assistant coach next year under Roosy. Bookmark it.

They've gone twice this year so far.
I'm not arguing with you, I'm just relaying his opinion, that both were unfortunate rather than his body packing up.

Agree, the main point is, we need quality people to set the culture. MM is huge on it.
Sewell i think will head into the media and i think he offers similar to Brock and Carrots.
I see O'Keefe as a viable option as a mid/forward. he was a half forward who turned himself into an elite mid.
I 'd love to see him work with Menzel.
When he plays he'll kick goals not points
A fit Sewell is a definite upgrade over those two, the question is would it be a fit Sewell? As Etsal mentioned there are question marks there..
Both would be great in mentoring roles as they're both guys who have turned themselves into good/very good footballers through hard work and great preparation rather than necessarily being the most talented players out there.

Fair call, there's a reasonable chance that two of those players will be gone and we'll be left with a reasonably inexperienced playing group, a lot is dependent on what Juddy does, you'd imagine.
Having a couple of wise heads around for a year or so and then transitioning into off field roles wouldn't be the worst thing.

I think the concern is not Carrots' ability as much as playing Curnow, Graham, McLean & Carrots in the same team is a little slow. Especially if we lose Juddy. Hence why I think one of our most pressing needs after KPPs is runners & speed unless Doc, Menz & Bucks can move into the midfield very soon.

O'Keefe is older than all of those. :( Even so, we still have Simpson, Murphy, Jamison, Gibbs to step up as onfield leaders.

More importantly, what position does O'Keeffe play? You'd think at 34yo he's too old to run through the midfield. As a half forward he'd be taking games off Johnson and Byrne - Swans aren't afraid to play the kids.

Agree Azul even if we do lose Judd carrots and Waite, we've still got Gibbs, murph, walker, Jamo, Simmo & Hendo. Waite is hardly a role model. And then I'd expect natural improvement from the younger leaders.

Would be shocked if Mclean plays on next year.

Adding ROK would only make us slower. He's practically lost his spot to the one paced Laidler who has played forward and back.

Wouldn't call the Hawks and Swans quick outside of Smith, Hill, Rioli, Rohan, Jetta and Cunningham. Speed is less important than the ability to run hard both ways and have players who keep their chin up. If we wanted pace, we'd chuck Lucas and Garlett in the side.

Cripps isn't exactly quick.

He'd play somewhere in the VFL.
I'm in two minds as to whether this sort of thing is a good idea or not but I remember earlier in the year when Scotto was running around for the Bullants how noticeable his voice and direction was in comparison to the others. Whether it's one of the players mentioned or even a career VFL player recruited to the NB's, having some extra guidance would only help the young boys grow as players. The cats have done a good job of this in years past with the likes of Pods/Selwood etc.

Well said.

McLean has a new contract for next year according to him.

That's all he'd have to do.

Who's advocating O'Keefe as anything more than an on-field leader for the kids at the next level?
I don't think people appreciate just how vital it is for the newbies to have the right support mechanisms in place from their peers.

Given we'll effectively have brought in as many as 16 kids in two years, some support at the next level is vital.
Look at yesterday for example..........Armfield and next was Watson...........That was the extent of our senior leadership.

I really do hope we are chasing Jaensch from Adelaide and Gaff from Wce as previously mentioned weeks back.
Both had really good games yesterday (especially Gaff).

Robinson and our 3rd for Jaensch and Adelaide's second.
Garlett and our 2nd and 2nd from Adelaide for Gaff - too much/ not enough? It's a Sunday...

Both players would certainly add a bit more speed to our group also.

Why would ROK choose to come to us if he's just going to play in the 2s? Isn't that why he's leaving Sydney?

As Choo put forward; with the lure of becoming a development coach. (See Scotland)

It may be a hard sell but if he bit, I'd be happy having him on the strength of the character he seems to be.
Besides, we don't want to just be giving jobs to the boys although Scotland was always a good candidate.

I don't get the same feel from Carrazzo as I'm not sure he relates with all types as is required.
We have a few of our leaders who don't strike me as being peoples people.

I agree in principle for the reasons to offer him that role, I just can't see him wanting it :P

Neither can I but we will be bolstering several footballing related departments this year and I hope it doesn't come from our own little cocoon.

There's good intel and people outside the CFC.

Totally agree. As I said I understand the rationale behind brining in someone like O'Keefe, I just think O'Keefe would probably get an offer which entailed more playing time.

You'd think his most likely home would be the Dees. Reunites with Roosy and would be more likely to play 1s there.

Watching the Dees V Lions game right now, there's a couple of Melbourne players i wouldn't mind if we could acquire them cheaply, Colin Garland and Dean Kent. They may be depth players, but would be good insurance if we a cop another horrific run of injuries next season etc ..

don't think kent has gotten over 20 touches in a afl game he is a poor mans graham, we are into Higgins in case we lose judd waite an co, other then that we will not be trading in player over the age of 20,
