Strong draft, I'd like to get more picks in the second round if we can somehow. If we can't get a gun mid (which was never likely to begin with) then I'd like to see us double down on the draft.
Only issue I have is that they will probably use their second on another third tall

Jake Waterman - being nominated as our F/S pick. He is agreeable too and is signing paperwork.

Source here

Edit added - Will still depend on bids by other clubs to see if we match.
This is good news

One it puts to bed the speculation that we've somehow upset the Watermans by delisting Alec.

Secondly, whose the ****ing muppet that writes the headlines - "I want to be an Eagle, says Chris Waterman". Idiots.

Lamb looking East, gawwwnnnnnn. With Hutchy too so who knows!

Boys at Croc Cove in Darwin. I look out my office window down on the croc pens watching tourists take a dip. Not many offices with that veiw, the double bikini slots are the best, sooo many back packers.

Whats hilarious is they get out, grab a towel and then sniff each other. They ask what smell is and then work out thats what diluted croc poo and wee smells like.....then hit the showers.:p:D

PS on that angle he is actually looking north west.

Zac clarke would be better than petrie. I wish we would try and get a midfield though
I think you will find things are going on behind the scenes but to get the deal done
a) you need A Grade Midfielder willing to leave current Club and come West (do you have anybody in mind?)
b) you need said contracted player from the Eagles who wants to leave (from what I've heard none of the contracted players want to leave).
WHICH leaves us in a very difficult situation, and if the above is unable to be done the only other alternative is to go to the Draft.
Unfortunately sometimes the Clubs hands are tied, no matter what Brad Hardy tries to say. Yes you have to give up something to get something (eg Darling which was Brad Harry's suggestion - I don't like this as what happens if Kennedy should break down?). Also if Darling doesn't want to leave he isn't going anywhere as he is still under contract in any event. Life is not easy sometimes!!

Headline is correct. Chris is coming out of retirement and wants to be recruited back into the club in next years draft under the son/father rule.

People on here complaining about inaction.

Would you rather we pay Wells $600k for 3 years and also grab Mayne for $500k for 2 years.

We traded in 2 mids last year and gave up our first round pick.

Building through the draft isn't a stupid concept is it?
Stop it with this coherent sane talk. I want more inane babble. 600K is nothing for Wells. Lets just offer him 800K. And throw a cold million at Rockliff while we are at it.

Free agency is also a reason why we can't just "rebuild" by getting rid of everyone. Players that are left will no doubt be our best players and they will think "hmmm well I won't win a premiership here, might as well go. Don't want to wait 5 years".

Draft well, develop well and continue building. Add players from other clubs where opportunity comes. If not, draft and ensure u draft well.

We can't just tank as gaff shuey etc will just want to leave when they hit FA. That means rebuild will take even longer and I am not interested waiting 6 years till team is competitive. Even then no guarantees as the likes of Carlton north, Essendon have found out.
Just as well you didn't support the Doggies - what was it 62 years between Premierships!!

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of West Coast though from the old man. Generally these things become a bit of a happy mess with dad or son usually gushing about the club and the family connections etc. This, at the very least guarantees Jake gets drafted, but doesnt sound like they're too concerned where that might be.

Perhaps this forces the issue and we get serious about preferencing WA country boys, with a bit of mongrel and a stronger connection to the land and their state than a metrosexual cuck from the prestigious paradigm of private instruction institutions.

Either this or west coast just don't tey hard enough to secure these boys.. We are so far from a destination club if a local indigenous bloke would rather eat pasta on lygon street and play for Carlton...

Our club does not fill me with confidence, we seem content to thrash in the pools of mediocrity. People will say it's on Pickett but ffs who will it be three years down the track?

Just concerned that there is a stink of rot at our club and these player managers can smell it a mile away.
Think you're getting a bit carried away there. Take a deep breath and settle down.

Sorry mate, but I'm struggling to understand your logic on this one.

Probably not that logical mate, I have a real problem with FA. If Luke Shuey wanted out and after all these years of investment we get a token pick in exchange I think that is just a terrible system.

In his combine interview I remember Jake Waterman saying he wants to transition into the midfield. Thoughts from those who have watched him play, is he capable? Could be the big bodied mid we are after and can definitely play forward too so that adds versatility.

If your employer puts eight years of development into you and you walk out the door to go work for their competitor, what compensation do they get?

We're a rich club so we can afford to convince him to join us instead.

Even though there's a salary cap and we couldn't actually pay him any more than the Crows.

Speculation... not saying we could sway him west but you or I hardly know the state of salary cap space at either club

Well then why don't we just let players play for there club of choice right from the start then? You can't compare it to day to day work life when you don't give players the choice of where they work to start with.

The answer to your question is none but it is not a comparable situation.

The coffee mug you inevitably forget to take with you

How many people start their career with their employer of choice?

No, but how much extra per season do you think we'd need to pay to convince him to move to Perth when he's said he wants to go home to Adelaide?

Also how willing would Carlton be to trade him to us when their player is walking out of the last three years of his contract?

To get it done we'd be paying massively over the odds both in terms of satisfying Gibbs financially and Carlton in a trade. Is it really worth mortgaging the farm for Bryce Gibbs?

There's an argument for that, and the AFLPA is very gradually working towards that. This is the compromise system we've got at the moment.
