I'm sure he would take the premiership over the long career any day of the week, it is what players strive for after all.

His clutch goal in the last quarter went a long way to us winning that game also.

Depends how you define success.
Fulfilling a childhood dream that dick all footballers ever achieve - Huge success.
Financial success from football - maybe not maybe yes. He would have made connections through football and being a premiership player he could get a cushy job through sponsors or fast track coaching.

Kinda meant successful from the perspective of the club though. Although Armstrong did serve his short-lived purpose.

It's not the best hit rate. The reason why I thought about it was Viojo Rainbow. It's tempting to think that a club just didn't handle someone right and that they're worth a rookie spot, but simple fact is it's more likely that the other club knew they're never going to make it

For me, this is the case with higher draft picks, who just didn't turn out as expected. They obviously had some talent but were they just Richmonded (or previously Melbourned/Carltoned). Having said that we haven't really had much success at turning those around either have we? Off the top of my head JON, Morton, Brad Dick, Lucas... we do seem to like a discard with talent, but don't seem to have much chop at turning them around. Picking up someone else's rookie discards seems pointless to me. They're clearly not good enough to be on the main list of another professional club (even the Richmonds), if they can't at the very least do enough to get on those main lists, you have to say they're bound for the state leagues.

When was he a line coach at Perth??

As far as i know he left Perth after his playing days and went and coached Subi colts and from there he went and coached amateurs and in 2017 is at Swans assisting there colts side.

That's kind of why I asked the question - it doesn't seem like just us who can't "de-Richmond" (or whatever club) a delisted player who was previously highly rated. Moore at Richmond (former #9) is the latest to fail, and you'd suspect that there'll be more each year.

Steven Armstrong has coached junior footy for a while , his Grandfather Ken Armstrong was probably one the greatest WA coaches ever .
With Steven coaching as the forward coach alongside Greg Harding next season at Swans its certainly a good opportunity for him to go further .

Still reckon Armstrong was stiff to get delisted when he did at WCE .

Armstrong was there when we won the flag in 2006, so he was competing with all the guys mentioned for most of his career.
