People need to realise that unless we get pick 3 from Richmond, we aren't getting Butcher unless we take him at 2.

They gave up pick 17 for Jordan McMahon, so I reckon we could get pick 3 for someone like Nathan Jones or Brock McLean!

Picks 1,2,3 = Scully, Trengove, Butcher :D:D

MLK had a dream but not that big GB.

Why not try to get something for Robbo and Jones as a package? Richmond aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

McLean + pick 18 to WCE for Kerr and there third round selection.

Melbourne need a Top echelon player to teach the kids, Look at what Cousins will do for Richmond, Judd for Carlton and no one at Port. Kerr is youngish, so will still have some reasonable time in the game, Will probably be 29-30-31 when you guys are pushing for a flag.

Teach the kids how to assault people and get high?

In all seriousness WC wouldnt go for that- and I wouldn't let McLean go for the sort of personality Bailey has been striving to remove from the club (dont get me wrong Kerr is an amazing player and many will disagree with me!).

Michael Newton could be a possible project key foward for one of Sydney,Bulldogs or Carlton, I would think he would be worth a 3rd or 4th rounder.

Jared Rivers would be a good fit for several clubs, probably worth a late first rounder or early second rounder.

Brad Miller is the obvious one that the Dees may want to offload, he is worth around a 3rd round pick in my opinion. While he is only 26 his kicking and inability to hurt opposition teams on the scoreboard would only make him worth a late seconder rounder or third rounder.

Simon Buckley is interesting, I think the Dees could definately find a few clubs interested in him and what he is worth is hard to say. Maybe the Dees could look at trading him and a pick for a Steven Salopek. Although given Melbournes stage of development I would have thought you guys probably want picks only and not players.

Matthew Bate, ok so all of you are probably thinking Bate is one of our best players no way we would trade him. West Coast is on the record as putting their first rounder on the table, would you accept pick 6 for Matthew Bate?

Few interesting ideas there HF15... trading Riv wouldn't be an option though IMO - we know what he's capable of, and he's had a fine season this year.

As for Bater... I'd be wanting to keep him in that scenario. He's been on a steady improvement curve for us, and he has a fair amount of upside still.

The Miller, Newton & Buckley ideas would be worth trying though, if we could pull off that kind of result from such trades...

I don't think we should count out Buckley yet tbh. I know he's been injury prone as of late but, he looks to have great potential going forward (providing he can stay injury free)

Absolutely!!! These people thinking he is tradeable are crazy. Remember 12 months ago, he was one of the only bright lights in a miserable year. He is an untouchable. And besides, if most of our recent draft picks are as good as we think they are, and with Sculley and whoever, next season, I dont think we have to trade at all!

Yeah, that's a fair enough point, I guess my opinion's clouded a bit due to not having seen much of him in '09 - hopefully we'll get to see more of Buckley next year...

I didn't rate him last year. He's a turnover merchant with poor decision making.

Nice one HF15. Im not sure that clubs are rating 3rd round draft picks very high this year so we might prefer to keep Newton on as a project ourselves. At least his body will take some of the load off Watts and Jurrah until they are a little older - especially if we trade Miller.

Miller is in a similar position (probably not part of our next premiership side but he can still serve a purpose for us until others are ready) and I think his value is down atm. If we get a deal done for him I could see it being a package involving a pick upgrade rather than just a draft pick.

Buckley might escape trade because we dont know exactly where hes at. If he gets a good run he could be excellent or he could be average and struggle to break into our running brigade with some quality kids coming through.

Bate is one that I thought we could throw out to see what comes back but people didnt seem too keen on it as he's really improved this year. Hes very good but hasnt stamped himself to a specific role - if pick 6 came up I would have thought we'de take it in a flash but others have disagreed with me on Bate before.

What would Hawthorn offer for Warnock, Rivers or Martin (if anything) and which would you prefer?

Out of your backman I would rate them Garland, Frawley, Rivers, Warnock and Martin in that order.

What we could offer

Garland - Pick 9 + fringe player (you would never trade him)
Frawley - Pick 9 + fringe player (you would never trade him)
Rivers - Pick 26 + fringe player or pick 9 + 26 for pick 17
Warnock - Pick 26
Martin - Pick 26 (don't think we would want him)

To be honest the only ones we would target would be Rivers/Warnock, but it seems that we have interest in Marcus Drum so that probably limits us in our need to get a backman like Rivers/Warnock if we can secure him (personally I don't rate Drum but seems the coaching staff does and plus when do you ever loose out when trading with Freo)

Good answer - sounds about right but I dont think we would take it. We wouldnt be interested in fringe players - although Thorp might be ok.

Thought you might have offered slightly more to get Warnock or Rivers but I can see you guys taking Talia with pick 9 anyway.

Ludicrous suggestion that Bate is disposable but we should keep Miller.
