Trades- Round 3

New at all this. Looking at my first trades for the season.
My biggest worries at the moment are
a) I didn't start with Swan
b) I have Astbury and Palmer

From those a little more knowledgable than me, would you suggest

a)Trading out Palmer for Libba, freeing up $210,000. Upgrade Astbury to Enright leaving $27,000 spare and a backline consisting of Goddard, Gibbs, Deledio, Grimes and Enright as keepers.

b)Trading out Palmer for Libba, freeing up $210,000. Then upgrading either Shuey or Fyfe (DP), to any midfielder apart from Swan ($20,000 short).
Already have Pendlebury, Boyde, Selwood.

c)Do the Palmer/Libba trade and keep the $210,000 for another trade, and maybe trade Astbury for McKernan, giving me another $100,000.

Thoughts?

actually I really like a) or c)

Enright will make your backline much more productive, and the 300K from c) gives you lots of options.

Conca > Libba
Foley > Pendles/Murphy/Mitchell, most likely Pendlebury.

Kept some cash back in order to fix the inevitable initial mistakes, gotta a lot of catching up to do after the Round 1 farce of Selwood, Foley and Yarran

Have got Michael Johnson (FRE) in my team with Heath Grundy as the BAC/FWD DP link. After two poor performances for a $300k player, mainly due to stopping roles he has been receiving, i think it's time to cut my losses.

Considering trading Hibberd out for Curnow purely for the cash cow factor early in the year and Hibberd doesn't look like getting a game for a while.

But don't know what to do with Johnson! Considering O'Keefe maybe...

I have $80k in the bank and am sitting 264th overall after 2 rounds, so looking for points!

And there'd be some criticising this idea but trading out Duffield?? Just seemed to be a bit too much defensive minded, and I dont see him getting any stints through the middle like last season.

I'm tempted to offload him too (for Enright), and boy would it feel nice pressing the "Accept Trade" button doing it....but it goes against the GOLDEN RULES OF DREAMTEAM lol

Haha exactly as I expected with the golden rules :P

Reasoning is this, when people make an upgrade around round 10 or so, they will look to offload players for a gain of maybe 15-20ppg per round. Eg adcock avg 70-75 for maybe Gilbert avg 85-90, for a total gain of well ill go 17.5ppg x 12 rounds (factoring byes). Thats 210 total point gain.

Grimes appears to be very capable of getting a 95 avg, and Duffield gets close to 90, but if he appears more defensive minded as I think, well Ill be nice and pencil him in for an 85 avg, but could be better or worse. There is 20 rounds left, and 10 ppg, perhaps not worth a trade after round 12, would equate to 200 points gained. Not to mention an extra 20k gained.

Of course its up to your gut feel and own judgement to determine what you think Duffield will avg and the extra points you are trading for, for some it will vary, but upon the above reasoning, i think Ive just confirmed to myself my first trade.

Man, the byes this year are killing me. What to do?

Hayes it out injured. Need another mid premium. Was thinking Pendles, but now I'm thinking maybe Murphy, but I don't want same team players due to the bye. Have Swan and Gibbs in my mids (although Gibbs can go back for Buckley or Heppel if need be). So maybe Murphy. But Pendles just seems so delicious.

Or perhaps get Embley, make a bit of money from him and upgrade to Pendles at a later date after the Pie bye?

Then I need to get Curnow or Libba to make some cash. Atley is the one I plan to ditch (particularly as the Roos have the bye and are crap). Leaning towards Libba, simply because of the Gold Coast game.

Or do I do something crazy and go Hayes/Atley -> Curnow/Libba, bank a bit of dosh and then splurge for Pendles later? I still have concerns over Curnow. Libba seems a bit safer.

So, all up, probably looking at Atley -> Libba. Hayes -> Pendles/Murphy/Embley... what to do??

At the moment it looks like a lot of people are in the predicament that is Nathan Foley. In my opinion the best option at this stage is to downgrade him to either Libberatore or Curnow. It wouldn't even be the worst idea to bring both of these players in.

Both of these rookies have improved their job security over the the first 2 games. Bringing in these players allows you to have a lot of cash in your bank ready for upgrades. These upgrades can be made once the multi-bye rounds from round 4-6 have finished, and by then someother cash cows in your team will be ready to upgrade. In addition Gold coast have their second bye in round 9, so it is important to offload a couple of them in rounds 7-8 to avoid donut issues.

I wouldn't be looking to bring in Rioli, Chapman etc now, because they have bye clash issues with other players, also If you look at Chapman and Montagna (moreso Montagna) they haven't had the best start to the season and are a perfect upgrade target for this round 7-9 period. It may seem as though you are burning a trade early, however, due to Libba and curnow having the ability to earn a lot of cash I think it is important to bring them in now, and it will benefit your team in the long term.

I think I will go for Foley -> Libberatore, and potentially go Atley -> Curnow as well. Atley has scored poorly so far and he has a bye this week meaning he will take a while to earn cash.

I didn't do any trades after Rd1 and I've got...

Heppell, Lower, Duigan, Otten, Cripps

Libba, Conca, Bewick and Swallow

Tapscott, Richardson, Prestia, Matera

Thinking of Conca-> Curnow & maybe Cripps -> Mckernan

Not too sold on Conca getting big scores and I am actually considering Swallow -> Harris for more cash...??

After 4 years doing DT and not really knowing what the hell I'm doing, I find myself in a situation where I can make a real climb into the top 100 if I pick these rookies right.

I have to get rid of Cripps don't I ?

Any advice would be great.

Like everyone else, im looking to bring in Curnow or Libba into my midfield.

One thing im concerned of is their job security.

What are peoples thoughts on this?

ATM im leaning towards Curnow as the Dogs have a few players that could take Libs place in the coming weeks - having said that, im not sure what the go is with Curnow??

Brad Green is a player i have that is underperforming and looking for a massive price drop...

Hibberd for Curnow
Green for Dawes

Leaves me with plenty in the bank, and hopefully more after this weekend.

Thoughts?

Beau Waters an obvious OUT

but i have 2 options for an in

1- Scott Stevens - ADEL
2- Corey Enright - GEEL

enright will bring a consistant score to my backline but geelong's bye is in finals time, would i just be throwing away another trade later on?

stevens is alot cheaper, is a DPP and already had 1 bye. but isnt as consistant as enright

still struggling to decide which one 2 go with.

thoughts?

^^ Enright is a no brainer for me

Trading Yarran for Dawes, but can't decide whether to go Foley > Curnow or Atley > Curnow

Foley trade makes me ~160k (and foley's value likely to drop after this week) but he definitely has better JS than Atley and probably higher scoring potential.

I have the same problem!

Bit I'm thinking of Atley this week to Curnow. Atley doesnt look to be a dream teamer as he doesnt take marks or lay tackles.

This gives Foley another week to prove himself (Hopefully biulding on his second half) and if he fails, you can trade to McKenzie (Suns) if he has another good game.

Foley is set to drop at least $20K so I'd consider cutting my losses at this stage.

LOL. losing 20k is hardly a concern, obviously the greater concern is not making the 80-100k that one of the rookies will make.

Defintley Enright. I gambled on Stevens last year and he was horrible, very inconsistent and wont' go up much in price. Enright will be a much mroe consistent and reliable premium if that's your only choice.

Will be trading Atley who, whilst he may be a good player in due course, isn't a good DT scorer at this stage.

The 3 players I'm looking at are Curnow, Liberatore and Bewick - nothing out of the ordinary with these selections.

I just can't decide which one to bring in.

The other issue is Hibberd. He's useful for DP purposes - but I think I'd be better off trading him out for a rookie who is set to have a few significant price rises, then trading him back in when he works his way into the Essendon team, pocketing a nice profit in the process.

So that's 2 to trade out, 3 potential 'ins'.

How would you rank them?

I think Bewick has the best JS of the 3, but he doesn't seem to be as prolific a scorer as the other two.

Some thoughts would be appreciated.

Bewick is going to be a great cash cow, but I would still take both Curnow and Liberatore over him every day of the week.

Both Curnow and Liberatore are set for at least two very decent price rises right of the bat which means they are going to reach maturity as cash cows at least several weeks earlier then someone like Bewick.

Having some rookies that reach maturity nice and early allows you to cherry pick the best down grade option and allows you to bring in your premiums quicker which ultimately push you up the rankings.

Also, if Liberatore keeps playing like he is, his JS will not be an issue. Bulldogs are more likely to drop an under performing senior player then they are him at the moment.

Lets be honest the golden rules havnt been updated for 2 or so years and arnt adjusting with the adaptation of dream team.

Some points still stand but a fair few dont, so dont worry about the golden rules too much until they are updated.

To be honest I'd rather go Curnow, all this talk about Libba, hes not going to get 10 tackles every week. I remember last season I think a bloke called Jordie Mackenzie had a couple of 100s from tackling a lot and then did not much? I'm just going by memory here, just be careful with Libba.

Also should I stick with Hannebury? Hasnt been bad so far but his scoring needs to improve to be worthwhile. What about ROK can he keep it up?

Agree very much so

Thanks, Enright spending more time in the middle now also, so it does sort of make it an obvious decision

I also agree, i looked into the differences of the 2 players and chose to trade for Curnow instead of Libba.
