Troy Broadbridge Missing

Actually to add an even more personal perspective for me, I have just found out the name of his wife and I actually knew her (from a few years ago) I am so glad she's safe, she's a great person, but boy this is a big shock and I do hope and pray for the both of them, but it must be an terrible situation.
However I recently lost a friend to an drowning in Warrandyte, and his body wasn't recovered for an week, and the longer the week went on, the worse the concern and fear that he wouldn't be coming back.
I can only pray and hope he is okay but it looks pretty tragic. I am so sad for Trish and his family.

Terrible news, terrible tragedy.

Sounds bleak for Troy Broadbridge, but heres hoping he is discovered safe and well.

I hope everyone reflects on what a tragedy this disaster is and refrains from using the word tragedy in future when relating it to football. A tragedy team so and so lost, a tragedy so and so is injured etc etc.

A tragedy is 60,000 dead, and millions displaced. A tragedy is millions of grieving families. A tragedy is the Boxing Day tsunami.

Oh and please take the religious doctrine outside of this thread. I haven't preyed for the victims. After all which god to pray to? Hindus have hundreds, Muslims have Allah, Christians have the Father son and Holy Spirit. And Buddists, well.......
Considering this distaster was non descerning in its killing regarding faith, I am confused.

Okay fair enough I've just gotten a big shock myself, with the news and Now I've just read in the paper (2 minutes ago) the name of his wife, whom I knew from a couple of years ago when I went to Reach Youth (the youth organisation run by Jim Stynes)
I am so gutted for her.
Having said that, I just found out the news of Troy Broadbridge when I logged on the net today, and didn't realise the context in which TP wrote that message.
So I apologize wholeheartedly if I erred in any way.

Hes not more important than the 60,000 others but he his part of the football community so of course we are going to talk about him.

I'm sure you will find Thrawn that we all treat the loss equally across the board, Troy is highlighted here because he is recognizable, a figurehead so to speak.
I don't think anyone here believes the possible loss of Troy to be more shocking than the loss of anyone else.

I was one of the lucky ones, having flown out of Phuket on the 24th December

I disagree. I know why he is highlighted, but that doesn't mean he's any more important. That was my point really.

Not more shocking as such but has a more immediate impact. We as a society are so desensitised to death and destruction shown on television due to the amount of violence and disaster related movies out there. We know they are not real. When a real life situation is being shown on television, we know it is real because it is on the news, but it doesn't look any more real than the works of fiction that we see. When you put a real face, a real name into the mix and it starts to mess with your mind a little bit. For many I think Broadbridge is merely a link to the reality of the situation.

Besides this, natural disasters are not a topic for the AFL board but Troy Broadbridge is. I'm surprised this event generally hasn't received more coverage on the SC&P board.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to take your little attention seeking rant against Fireman to PM? This thread is not the forum for your indignant grandstanding.

Oh BTW in this instance I didn't find your initial post offensive. Mabye a tad lacking in tact, but then again the way things are going, it is probably true.

Hey clown. Just in case you notice its not my attention seeking rant. It was The Fireman who decided it was his duty to try and convince Celtic_Pride that he was wrong and that my initial post was meant to be some sort of sick crack at Broadbridge. Just in case you notice its never me that starts these ********en threads yet I am always the one who has to try and defend myself.
 
This whole thing has really numbed me really and I feel so helpless that I can't do anything really to help, apart from give money for aid, which I will.
It is so terrible when you hear stories of Broadbridge, and that poor little baby Melina Heppell who was swept away from her father's arms.
It is so incomprehensible and senseless.

TP was not responsible for the disgraceful conduct in this thread. He merely stated that in all probability Troy would not turn up safe after he was swept away to sea. Given about 60,000 have perished, I would hardly consider this to be an insulting statement at all, merely reality. His chances of survival are not at all good.

Others have seized the opportunity to push their personal agenda against TP by turning this thread into a slanging match. Pathetic.

And the religious debates are just as fickle and irrelevant. Create new threads for your bull********. Lets keep this one for updates on the missing footballer.

As I said I found no offence in the initial post. Sad that it had to turn into a flame war on this thread.

That was my point as well superstar, no room for poster to poster flames, or religious debates on this thread, plenty of others for that sort of thing.
 
I am disgusted in the way some of you have allowed this thread to become a bitchfight! I am more disgusted in the so-called moderators and ADMIN of this forum that have allowed this crap to be posted within such an important thread! You people should really be ashamed of yourselves.​
