It turns out that US law does not protect the deceased from defamation. The "convenience" is that MJ is dead and can't defend himself, otherwise HBO would be sued out of existence. Any credible journalist would provide a fair and balanced view of the facts of the case. That's not what we have here. This documentary focuses almost exclusively on the accusers, telling their story. That's HBO's prerogative. The outcome though is that it gives the audience only one side of the story and biases them of MJ's guilt. Trial by media.

HBO is getting sued for $100m by the Jackson Estate because one of the clauses for airing a 1992 concert was to not disparage the character of Jackson in any way.

"The Michael Jackson estate is asking a judge to force HBO into non-confidential arbitration. The estate is seeking damages that “could exceed $100 million should HBO succeed in the damage it is intending to cause to the legacy of Michael Jackson.”"

Why would they want it to be non-confidential?

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if the documentary was retaliation for the Jackson Estate selling the rights to stream Jackson's music to Sony Music Entertainment instead of Warner Music Group. Both Sony and Warner sold their equity in Spotify because both will be launching their own music streaming services soon.

The Jackson Estate sold the rights for 50% of Sony's own music catalogue for $750m in 2016 - some of which were Beatles songs - and sold the streaming rights to Jackson's songs for 7 years for $250m last year. The Jackson Estate owns all of MJs masters, so they could have sold the rights to whoever they wanted.

All of the paedophilia accusations started the moment Jackson sold the ATV catalogue to Sony in 1995 for half a stake in Sony Music Publishing. His own music, however, wasn't part of the deal. Guess who published that until 2012?

I reckon no one gives a ****. Hamill is just jacked that the franchise is moving on without him. And honestly, in the context of the series, it would have made absolutely no sense plot wise. That's why he picked such lousy movies to be a part of, because he's got no idea what makes a good story.

I'm more looking forward to Johnson's new trilogy than the conclusion of the Skywalker saga this year, primarily because I'm sick of Hamill's whining.

Yeah, I'm aware of the lawsuit. Will be interesting to see if it has teeth. It's an obscure play which shows the Jackson Estate has limited options compared to a straight defamation case.

It is an accuation because I have given no opinion on MJ's guilt. The mental gymnastics is believing I have given an opinion on MJ's guilt because I'm critical of the Leaving Neverland documentary. MJ could be guilty as sin and the Leaving Neverland documentary would still be a biased hit job.

Here's my opinion on MJ's guilt: I'm fairly sure he's guilty of some form of child molestation. The stories and rumours over the years are far too persistent, notwithstanding this latest documentary. Even if he was innocent, he should be guilty just for the sheer stupidity of creating situations that could lead to these rumours and Court cases in the first place.
