Under 23 team

We currently have 21 players (just under half the list) who will be under 23 years old in 2018. I'm actually pretty excited about every one of them.

That is ****ing sexy for a premiership team. Even the guys in that 29-31 bracket don't move up to the next bracket for a couple of years (they were all born in 1988, so not turning 32 until 2020).

We have a heap of good small younger players. What we need now is a couple of the talls to really start to come on. In 3 years need at least 2 of Garthwaite, Soldo, Moore, Balta, CCJ, Miller to be best 22 players

Seems like the laws of physics have been broken for Richmond to have heaps of young players AND be winning games the premiership.

it gets up my goat when other teams get talked up as sooooo young - Essendon and Collingwood in particular but the Dogs and Carlton to a lesser extent https://www.zerohanger.com/clubs-average-age-2017-14173/

Depends how you analyse it, but i'd say our list is younger than all four of those.

Just to build a little on the OP...

The five players in our oldest group all turn 30 in 2018 and are probably in the tail years of their prime. They are Riewoldt, Edwards, Houli, Grigg and Hampson. Hampson is already deep depth at his position and we don't need to worry about replacing him. Riewoldt I think can continue to be effective for another 4-5 years with the way that he plays, provided his body holds up. That gives our young forwards some time to come on, and if they don't hopefully we have enough guys that did come on at other positions that put us in a good position to trade for Jack's replacement when the time comes. Edwards, Houli and Grigg are probably the ones that we'll need to replace in the next few years, and I think we have enough promising youth to feel confident about being able to do that.

Here is the team made up of the 19 players not mentioned yet (the ones that will turn 23-29 next season):

All these guys (notwithstanding injury troubles) should be available for the next 3 years or so, which means our window is wide open with pretty much the exact team that we have now until about 2020. By that time, the new Richmond culture will be so well established, we'll hopefully never see the likes of the darkness from which we have just emerged again.

I was lazy and just did the ages by subtracting the birth year from 2018. Some of the players (like Rance), don't turn that age until after the season will be over.

Houli,Grigg,Edwards,Hampson can all be replaced with current players on the list in 12 months time - Talent is already there imo

Riewoldt & Rance are the players we will be looking to find replacements for in the next 2 years, Hopefully Balta ,Chol or Miller become a suitable replacement

We already have a Martin replacement ready, But he's serving an apprenticeship in Brisbane for 2-3 years until his ready
