Newcastle is a bit more than midtable, they're a Europe challenger
Look they're OK but they certainly aren't top 4 material and I reckon if they finish anywhere between eighth and eleventh, they've done well.

Cabaye is their only midfielder of note, they ain't real flash up front and their defence is OK. If they do happen to fluke a European spot, they'll become relegation candidates next year due to the lack of quality in their playing group to be able to fight on two fronts.

The reason Swansea are struggling this year is this mickey mouse Platini et al benefit fund called the whatever cup.

To me mid table is everything between Europe and relegation battlers, so 8th to 15th depending on how many teams are battling to stay up come end of season - and Newcastle are very much in the hunt for a 5th, 6th or 7th finish and a Europa slot pending cup results.

We'll see what's happened at the end of the year but one thing is for sure, this year's EPL season is a beauty!

Just on mid table, my take on mid table is 10th and a couple of places above and below.

Everyone knows the formal definition of mid table nowadays is Man United plus or minus a couple of spots.

According to Pardew's comments after the game, they're not that far off top spot. Such a smug prick, love beating him. Wish we put 7 past him again like last season, but very happy with the three points yesterday.

Yeah, I heard that too. He said something to the effect that if we're top of the table, then they're not too far behind.

Considering that only Krul and Cabaye, of all the players on their books, could be regular first team players at The Arsenal, Pardew's comments only re-enforce what a tosser he is.

Krul & Sczenzny would be a close call. Could go either way. Cabaye is a good footballer too but he wouldn't be ahead of say Ramsey or Arteta for a CM spot. Along with Flamini & Wilshere, we have a decent little squad of CM options.

.... and that just shows what an idiotic statement it was from Pardew. He looked very dismissive of Arsenal when he made that remark, as if we're not that flash and his mob of try hards are somewhere in our league.

As for Krul v Szczesny, all I can say is that Nero stood on top of a balcony and played the fiddle as Rome burnt. Cabaye on the other hand, he's a class act and a bit more of an old fashioned CM in that he has the ability to spray the ball around with pinpoint accuracy over all distances and has that mongrel in him that's great for a team to go with his great vision. Wenger is dead keen on him as a replacement for Arteta or at least to take a huge load off our man. Ramsey is more of a marauding box to box midfielder and would work a treat with Cabaye.

PS. I am familiar with Squawka and they have 62 players above Koscielny in the "Duels Won" category and 18 above him in the "Defensive Action" category, whatever that is.

Statistics are a useful tool but nothing beats observation; seeing is believing.

Happy new year all.

Few injury concerns mounting for tomorrow morning. Ozil is out, Ramsey will be three weeks according to Wenger. Gibbs has done a calf (so you'd think that's at least 3-4 weeks). Nacho and TV should be okay. Then there are 'little' knocks for Walcott, Giroud and Rosicky, a fitness test needed for them.

Might need to have Flamini and Arteta at CM, Cazorla to number 10 and Walcott (if fit) and Wislhere wide.

Okay, have just read John Cross on soccernet saying Giroud is definitely out.

Lukas Podolski, come on down.

Word is Nacho has recovered Latro.

If Theo is fit, he should be in for Gnabry. And I'd have Wilshere left with Podolski up top.

Still, we should be winning this one at home tomorrow morning.

Hopefully Ozil and Giroud will be fit for Spurs on the weekend.
