With Guardiola, Conte and Mourinho taking charge of PL heavyweights next season, being frugal in the transfer window would be a defeatist attitude. Wenger simply has to buy players before/after the Euros if we're to stand a chance of UCL qualification and subsequent player retainment for 2017/18.

The future of this club weighs quite a lot on the next 6 months or so. Winning the league is a must - it'd be a failure of epic proportions if Tottenham/Leicester/a bang average City side finish with a higher points tally than us.

In the summer window, Wenger HAS to replace Flamini & Arteta, decide on Jenkinson's future (dispose of him and buy a FB), and seriously analyse the potency of our attacking stocks - Theo/Giroud are good, but can't be relied upon in such an inevitably competitive league. Taking a questionable squad into the campaign could potentially result in a disastrous turn of events for the club.

Bang on the money with that post.

If the rumours about Isco are true - then it's a start. Let's just hope they come to fruition.

I completely agree about frugality. Can't get away without messing about anymore, Pep and Conte coming in is enormous, and if Jose is at United, Wenger will be looking over his shoulder, deservedly so. Couple with that Poch's good work at Spurs, and the fight for the top four will be more fierce than ever.

I agree about Jenkinson, was never Arsenal standard and should be shipped out, Debuchy will go, so we'll definitely need another FB.

It seems like it's been quite some time since Wenger unearthed a gem. Not that Payet wasn't a nobody, but for what West Ham paid, we should have been all over that like a rash.

The CF department is something that definitely needs work - and while I like Giroud, the amount of chances he fluffs shouldn't be as high. Put a world class finisher in front of Ozil and we'd have a lot more goals.

The club needs to make some big decisions in the off season, and if they're the wrong ones, it may not end well.

Surey Özil can't be satisfied with the forwards around him. Wenger HAS to realise that he'll never get the best out of Mesut unless there's a clinical, A grade finisher in front of him. It's like with the Brisbane Lions - gun midfield, but have no one to kick it to inside the 50.

ffs, remember when we played the world's best AM behind 2nd appearance Yaya Sanogo against Bayern Munich? Hilarious, that was. I love Wenger and his outstanding youth policy, but he goes in quite short too regularly. We've turned a corner and are keeping hold of players, spending money when (absolutely) necessary, are raking in more and more revenue - but there are still signs of that post Highbury austerity at the club. We need to compete in the transfer window this time round, it's a must. Barring a miracle, the current philosophy just won't cut it from next season onwards. The PL is expanding, more and more world class personnel are being attracted to England. I hope to god that Wenger is aware of all this.

Profit in almost every area and we still don't ******* spend it.

It's posts like these that give fuel to people who think fans have no idea regarding finances. How can u have profit in "almost every area"? It's clear Arsenal made a loss last year so stick to ur day job.

That's a bit harsh. Conceivably, a business can make a marginal profit on almost every area of their P&L and still achieve a loss overall.

Possibly from a large tax charge, loss on sale of asset, other extraordinary items etc, it's completely plausible. And does happen from time to time.

Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal. Poor finishing will **** us, United will nab a goal through Lingard or that new kid. Spurs to dismantle Swansea and make it a two horse race between them and Leicester.

Edit: Since the 3-3 at Liverpool, and disregarding 36 minutes of the Leicester game and 72 minutes of the Chelsea game, we've scored 2 goals in 342 minutes of league football when it's 11 v. 11.

Both goals were scored against Bournemouth in a 3 minute purple patch. That's 1 goal every 171 minutes of game time.

That is a ******* horrendous stat.

Sure. But I don't think that's what the post in question was getting at.

We made a loss. Not by any extraordinary write downs or payments from what I can see. It's actually very disturbing that in a year with hardly any transfers that we lost. To me it can only mean we are overpaying in wages and that as a club we are at the limit.

I'm surprised too by the overall net loss. The cash reserves and balance sheet remain ridiculously strong, but haven't had a good look at the P&L numbers just yet.

Just doesn't sound right on face value that we've incurred a loss. Something's not quite right.

lol ... don't think Cruyff would've whipped out the club's financial statements when he made that comment ...
