By what I've seen (and I'm by no means an expert) yes, it would involve him in play more, give him some responsibility (in the same way it has to Roughie) and he has the marking skills although maybe not quite the tank yet.

But in saying that I haven't given up on him as a forward and much like Barry Hall said on retirement, Jones has all the tools to be a very good CHF but he needs to want to be 'the man', Bazza said something like Jonesy doesn't demand the ball enough and it's something Hall used to work with him on.

You want to see him take those sort of situations on. Even a little guy like Dahl has the confidence to take a set shot from 50. Jones needs to do it a lot more.

If he did end down back post Lake & Morris (and given Williams rarely appears), then between Talia, Roberts, Jones and Roughead, we might be OK for tall back men.

If JJ ends up being a good small defender, then maybe we just need two more, including a really creative Murphy type.

What I don't get is that he does this pretty well at VFL level. And to be honest I think it largely has to do with the way we move the ball. It's way too slow and it doesn't give him a chance which results in him losing confidence and running under the ball or not continuing to lead. Williams being an older player seems to be able to push past this, as does Dickson and Higgins but it's played havoc with Cordy, Grant and Roughead at times too.

I think the general point is that we should be a long way off completely writing off Jones as he has many AFL qualities he just needs to bring them to the table more often.
