I am not sure of the rules, but think is based upon length of service at the one club rather than age.

Sorry I am not much help!

I believe the requirement is age 30 as at January 1st and 10 years service at the club.

Darky should know, half the North Melbourne team qualify ;)

(ps.. does that rule out Calthorpe?)

Keep on thinking that fool... please dismiss the Kangaroos as old... slow... and fat... Danny Frawley did last year remember... thuck that still makes me laugh...

I am guessing then that some clubs do not have two veterans and therefore have a smaller list than those with two eg Freo haven't been around for 10 years.

It would also mean that if WCE veterans Kemp and Matera retired this year they could not be replaced as the oldest player on Jan 1st would be 29

Who would be the next qualifier Frodo? Jakovich? Turnball could be also but will retire at the end of this year anyway.

I've just read 2 articles on the AFL website referring to Veterans list. Both say 10 years with a club as being the rule, none mention any age requirement. Are you guys sure that players need to be 30?

Also there a different provisions for Port, Freo and Brisbane.

Vis, Milli would be next.

This veterans list thing is a very important issue for the Eagles as you need to get people on there with high salaries. There wouldn't be much point in putting Troy Wilson on there when he hits 30 (if it's an age thing) because he'd be on a low base salary.

If we could get (say) Glen Jakovich and Ashley McIntosh on there after Dean Kemp and Peter Matera retire (whenever that is and I'm not saying that's this year - they're both still stars - it depends on injury proneness), it would free up a lot of salary cap.

Are we sure it's not 10 years OR (rather than and) 30?

I'm sure it's both.

Consider the Roos list:

10 years service, 1991-2000
Mick Martyn
Wayne Carey
Anthony Stevens

Age 30 as at 01.01.2001
John Blakey 34
Matthew Burton 30
Mick Martyn 32

Our only player on the veterans' list this year is Mick Martyn, who qualifies under both criteria.

Not that I know of Frodo - but I could very well be wrong there. I will tell you this much I do know - Alastair Lynch - despite being over 30 and 10 years easily with the Roys, then Bears, and now in Lions, WAS NOT eligible, as it was deemed he didn't play for the same club for the full 10 years.

Somethign to do with he changed from the roys to the bears, well before the merger.

Former Bears players are eligible as they didn't by choice change clubs, and should Chris Johnson still be with us (being the last roy boy on the list from the 8 taken at the merger) he will be eligible too.

don't knwo about WCE but at Port we have Paxman. W got a concession in that the payer must be > 30. I seem to recall a certain number of games as well (obviously not all at Port)

Im' pretty sure Port's had something to do with being a foundation player and of a certain age, 28 i believe it was, as I think Mead is on the veterans list as well as Paxman.

I know we have 2 on the vet list, and I'm pretty sure Mead is one (Paxman defeintely the other) and he is not 30.

To go on the veterans list you must be 30 years of age and have ten years of service with the 1 club. Mark richardson will go on the pies list next year as he turns 30 next year and has been with the club for 10 years. Bucks turns 30 next year but can not be added because he hasnt been there for ten years.......
